Hmmm, I wonder I will be able to go back to Sep 27 2008. The Vx.xx number doesn't seem to mean much.

I have all the older versions. PM me your email address and i'll email you a copy. Sorry I can't remember what changed, but I can assure you the PVR one is the most stable so far FOR ME. Although Nov08 version did work well for many people, I had pix elation. All versions so far have sound drop out on the Digital (Coax and Optical) outputs.

I've installed the latest version and on the whole fairly happy with it - compared to the 1st PVR release anyway. Interestingly, the ET wouldn't pick up the new firmware (or old versions) from the same USB thumbdrive I have used before, but did from another one which I hadn't actually tried before. Haven't noticed any pixelation while watching shows - just immediately after changing channels. I just tried test recording onto the 1Gb usb thumbdrive and some pixelation, audio dropout, but this may be the same as discussed earlier with slow drives. My 320gb USB non-powered drive isn't detected, so might have to get an external powered case for a 3.5" disk drive to try. Clock seems ok. Deletion of recordings now requires a confirmation to be made and actually removes all the files. Can only record 1 channel and watch another channel on the same mux. Sound stuttering via HDMI and RCA connections hasn't occurred. Can't comment on the optical output. The full picture is now recorded rather than upper-left portion.

Seems fairly stable, but will need some more usage to confirm.

Initial search for channels displays the list it found but didn't show any radio stations - though they are actually tuned in.

Changing to Teletext now mutes the sound - would be good if the sound could carry on and be able to have text superimposed on the top of the picture too. Get a message when teletext isn't broadcast - e.g on channels other than TVNZ ones.
The LIST button works again, though it now gives a warning if no favourites are set up.

The version shows as 1.03 but is 13 June 2009.

Let's have some feedback from other folk.

I agree with cb1's findings - though I just have the audio to the tv via HDMI - no home theatre.
Recording screen size fixed. Audio seems ok now. Recording seems to work well enough.
Yep - Radio list is not populated after you do the initial setup - but they are tuned in ok.
Yes - the version does show 1.03 - Funny its gone backwards - maybe they arent too flsah on software version control!

Seems at least as stable as the NOV 08 firmware. Perhaps less pixelation. Though I came to the conclusion a while ago that my unit has some wonky hardware - its always been inclined to reboot by itself and suffered from more pixelation than other people have reported.

I also rolled it back to the Sep 08 (pre PVR) software without any problems. You could then presumably roll it forward to the Nov 08 (last official non-PVR) version ok if the PVR release causes you grief - so there is a way back. There are now at least a couple of us that have the Sept 08 software - can post it somewhere if others want/need it.

If your ET behaves reasonably well on the Nov08 software and you are using HDMI connection (cant speak for the other connectivity), I reckon its worth giving the PVR software a go.

I only have the November 2008 version and I dont know where I could get any earlier ones from.

I would like the ability to roll my box back - though at the moment the latest PVR version doesnt look too awfull, but I havent tested it too much.

Sorry robjg63, I misplaced my usb drive and only just found it. Looks like others have found a solution in the meantime :D

I just noticed a post on the freeviewshop forum regarding being unable to revert back to earlier versions of the firmware after the 1st PVR firware version. Reply from freeviewshop saying it is possible and gives a link to a version of the firmware

They are almost idential inside. When I went to drop off my amp to Peter and Chinese engineers at the motel in Henderson, they were doing the development for both boxes on the Visone. The Visione unit has some serial pins on the motherboard, whereas the ET box does not. There were using the serial connection and a program called Source Insight (http://www.sourceinsight.com/prodinfo.html) to debug the code in real time. Source Insight works with C+, C++, C# and Java, so I'm guessing the firmware is in one of those languages.

My guess is that the Visione software probably works on the ET box and vice versa.

Just to confirm, can you go directly to this version from the first PVR update version?
And does this 2nd PVR version fix the audio stuttering on tv3 when the standard MPEG audiotrack is selected?

Yeah, I tried setting up my harmony remote with the TEAC box they suggested. It didn't work. I have one of the boxes that required a firmware fix to get the remote working reliably though, so the TEAC settings may work for others.
