If you do want to record the output of the box, there are plenty of devices to remove the HDCP from the stream.

Its a laughable limitation that the freeview approval proces forces on things, since the OTA broadcast has no encryption on it and any PC or android phone with a tuner on it can dump out a restriction free mp4 file from the broadcasts.

clog: Your helpdesk just told me that the SD channel recordings are not encrypted when copied to USB.

Which is correct?

I apologise, The Helpdesk is correct.

Josh
Is that the reason why plus one channels will default back to the actual channel so users cannot series link plus channels and therefore easily get portable content.
ie. have to go to the trouble of looking through guides and setting up manual schedules.

Default HD channels thanks !!   HD and Dolby Digital are a big plus , i would be pretty steamed if the box chose to record non HD out of preferance, like Prime still in the dark ages.  Not too hard to rip the content as others mentioned above and if its in HD so much the better.  I have no need to rip though, cant even keep up with live shows let lone watch the back catalogue.

Move to New Zealand's best fibre broadband service (affiliate link). Free setup code: R587125ERQ6VE. Note that to use Quic Broadband you must be comfortable with configuring your own router.

No because if there are no other recordings happening at the same time such as a recording on Prime or any other mux group then the default recording will go to the main broadcast slot. The Plus 1 channels will be used only if there is going to be clashes with recordings already happening,  You can manually time the recording on Plus 1 at any time however.

Prime's about to get out of those dark ages! HD confirmed for early 2016. TBC on Freeview platform though

If they broadcast on Freeview terrestrial in HD that would give them a bit more clout given they have some pretty popular shows like Doctor Who etc... look soft and terrible.  Even if they only broadcast SD content the upscaling will help as SD content on existing HD channels look pretty good.

If their freeview broadcast didnt look like a bad 700 megabyte DVD rip it would be a good start.

Any chance of Google Cast being included in DishTV's Freeview+ boxes?

Google Cast (netflix, lightbox, everything else) + Freeview + Plus (TVNZ and TV3)

Would be awesome all in one box,

But then again, a chromecast is only $60

Our boxes will have the ability to cast videos, photos and music from your device such as a tablet or PC / Mac. using the DLNA feature.
For example...

Download a media sharing app and you can cast content from that device to the box.
Windows PC's Windows 7 and 8 - Play To Device Feature

Windows 10 - Cast to Device by right clicking a file such as a video and select Cast to device > DISHTV.....

We are still testing the DLNA as it's unstable at the moment but it's still enabled at the moment, however you could give it a go with a file.

Josh - DLNA is what is selling this box to me. How long before it is stable? - I know how long is a piece of string? But you know I mean what is the ETA?

That's cool, but how about Google cast (What chromecast uses) some TV's are coming out supporting it
