It's a modern day miracle!!!!! My PlayTV arrived from MyMemory today!!
That only took around 5 days. I was expecting about 10-12 days.
Just about to unpack and dig my teeth in now.

@Jaxson - I will test the TV3 "recording while watching" pixellation thing tonight.

No, I think it came through the regular mail. Possibly ParcelPost but definitely not courier.

been following this thread since last week and decided to get one from mymemory.co.uk for $138, have ordered many blurays from them with no issues in the past. It arrived today and setup was a breeze, it did take me a while to figure out that i needed to update the playtv firmware, not the ps3 firmware. Works great with my Harmony with the PS3 IR adapter. Will try recording next, but i might have to upgrade the 60GB hdd first.

Good to hear you guys have got yours already. NZ retailers may need to wake up to the fact that the world is a smaller place these days. Mine took 5 days as well from the UK, and Amazon is similar etc.

Yes, you need to update from within the PlayTV software too.

I'll check my setup with a better aerial too, am hoping it's this that's causing the problem for me.

arrived today, ordered on 6/11.
Pity I'm away overnight with work and won't get to give it a whirl until Friday night.

HDD seems like the logical next step

Mine arrived to 5 days from mymemory - faster than buying some things in NZ.

If you are wondering how to update from version 1 to version 1.21 you have to go to the setting tab in playtv and go to about which shows you the version number the select check for updates.
Version 1.21 will create a check for updates tab for easy access to future updates.

Works great now though.

Ok. Had a quick play around with PlayTV last night.

Initial impressions:

- Very nice UI.
- Fast channel switching
- Recording couldn't be easier!!
- Chase play (called "Replay TV" in PlayTV), is also very impressive. Very responsive.
- Fast forwarding is also very impressive, very smooth and responsive

A few issues:

I have noticed that compared to any other Freeview|HD tuner I have seen, the PlayTV seems to have a black outline around the picture (i.e The picture does not fill the whole screen like I have seen on other Freeview|HD tuners). I don't know if this means that PlayTV is outputting the correct pixel-to-pixel ratio, and the other tuners aren't? Or vice versa? Has anyone noticed the same thing?

One that has been mentioned before:
The fact that the channels are not in sequential order. A minor issue, but would be nice if there was an option to manually re-sort them.

Other than that I am pretty happy with it so far.
I will keep testing and reporting.

Looks like mine's arrived also, ordered 6 November so fast service. This is going to be interesting since I have a US PS3 but reports suggest that it should work. If not then it's going on Trademe!

[Update]

Simple installation and it worked fine on the US PS3. But couldn't watch or record any shows until I did the update. Wasn't obvious how to do that until I went to Help but after the update, there is now an option for update.

I find the PS3 controller just fine for controlling PlayTV. Doing a quick recording seems to be fine and live TV on TVNZ is also fine. As others have noted, the epg is poor. One annoying thing is when doing a manual recording you don't appear to be able to name the recording.

Might switch to this as my main FreeviewHD recording method apart from TV3 when gbpvr is fine. Only have a 60G PS3 so might also have to update the internal drive.

But apart from the EPG nice job. I haven't tried but I am assuming when you schedule a recording when the PS3 is off, it turns it on to record?

Jaxson: ..(Has to be fat32, so limited to 32 ish GB, what if you have a 120gb ps3 drive? Can PS3 format an external drive itself?). Swap out PS3 hard drive. Turn on PS3. I had hoped it would format straight away but mine kept asking for firmware 3.01 upgrade on a media stick?! Luckily I still had this on a usb drive as I'd downloaded it elsewhere. Installed this which then formatted the new drive, and then restore backup. All good.

[slight OT] Note the PS3 limitation of FAT32 is to files no larger than 4G, not 32G drives. Windows won't format a drive > than about 32GB in FAT32 but there are freeware utilities that can format a drive any size as FAT32. I regularly use a 80GB drive formatted as FAT32 on my PS3 to play HD content formatted in AVCHD format with the large files from a BR disc segmented into 4G chunks using MultiAVCHD. That way I can retain the Dolby TrueHD or DTS HD Master audio.

I too have noticed the black line and am a little disappointed with that, hopefully once NZ version is released that issue will be resolved.

I received mine yesterday and had a quick play and otherwise am very impressed. I love the GUI compared to FreeViews.

How are people finding the splitting of the signal? I have not gone there yet but intend to and was wondering if a standard splitter will suffice?

I didn't see any black lines around the picture - filled the entire screen nicely. My PS3 is output over HDMI to a 56" TV. Good news about the splitter since I disconnected the signal to my DVB-T box to test it out but might leave both going so I will need a splitter.

No, can't rename a manual recording presently, or re order the channels.

TV is setup fine, PS3 => Sony Bravia 46" W series is HDMI 16:9. Have played around with a few settings but still no luck, although one setting did give me no black lines at top or bottom, cant for the life of me think what it was but will have another look tonight.

will give spliter a go as signal is good and and distance is minimal.
