gzt: There are no search result advertisements presented by google at all, at least from my geo. Interesting.

That's certainly going to spoil their plans. :-)

freitasm: IIRC Google does not show ads in search results that could lead to pirated content because they don't want to be said to be profiting from digital piracy.

Also, remember that Megaupload stored shareable files, Google indexed files. Very different things.

I'm happy to support the new Mega site just as another backup of my personal files. Not sure why the nag screen promoting Chrome keeps poping up all the time though - wish I could stop that. I'm using IE9. Hope Chrome isn't required for Mega.

The report in the Herald (below) quotes NZX as describing Mega as a "New Zealand Company" and lists the directors and shareholders.

I have searched this thread and see that Chrome is needed for large files - it is the recommended browser but Mega does say in their Help "MEGA is entirely browser based and works with all current major browsers." Is everyone else using Chrome for Mega?

Did you read the specific browser information at https://mega.co.nz/#blog_1?

...

"Internet Explorer 9: Lacks all essential features required for MEGA: File I/O, Web Workers, ArrayBuffers, and binary cross-domain HTTP access. Nice text rendering, though."

...

Conclusion: If you are planning on using MEGA frequently, there is currently no alternative to using the most advanced browser currently in existence - Google Chrome.

[edit]... oops, their bias is showing!... Sorry Blair, looked like it was your conclusion initially

Yep - still under development. Sounds like they have a reasonably large road map on features etc. For the fact they have placed: Beta, on the website. All is forgiven.

Laughable that even using the "most advanced browser currently in existence" (sic, who came up with this sentence?) users can't upload even a tiny little file for testing.

Doesn't appear to be a browser issue but a lack of capacity.

You completely missed the sarcasm. Using the most advanced browser is nothing when the service doesn't work.

Is the sentiment clear now?
