Interesting that their USA website is still going and they have posted an announcement about the problem at http://support.jethost.com/announcements.php?id=10 . It must be operated totally separately from the NZ site.

Well, all websites now have the message the EziWeb are trying to restore services

Anyone know of another Hosting Co out there that has similar pricing to JetHost?

I wonder if this eziweb actually purhcased the company , as it was for sale. If they did, then the websites should never have gone down. Certainly someone has made a major stuff up. I see the website however is back online.

Regarding other hosts with similar pricing, as the post above allured to, you get what you pay for. The host I use charges more, but then again their service and reliability is top notch.

I'm so glad I found this thread. We use Jethost and my emails have been down for days and no help from the Jethost support (using another email account) so I thought I'd investigate online. I'm annoyed and really feel like I've been in the dark on this whole situation.

I renewed our yearly hosting with Jethost just in June so hoping that they can sort their stuff out.

At the moment I've just got email with Jethost since we moved our entire website to wordpress.com a couple of months ago.

Any suggestions on how I can retrieve my email address and get someone else to host it? Do I just ask someone to do it and let them know my domain details? I don't have a domain through Jethost.

It's weird though. I have all my emails forwarded to a gmail account - it was a safe guard that I'm glad I did. I'm getting some emails forwarded from my dot com email address to my gmail account but I can't access my usual dot com email through Jethost.

"...[a] web hosting and development company that went into liquidation on June 14 owing more than $600,000.
Last Friday, hundreds of websites, hosted by a company that was previously a subsidiary of Safi Technologies, went down.

It was the result of a legal dispute over ownership of the assets of JetHost which was launched by a Canadian company.

Website experts estimate that hundreds - possibly even thousands - of sites were affected by the outage."

Jethost and safi websites seem to be running again.. odd.

Tried Jethost a while back, didn't find their support that good.. so left a couple of weeks later.

There was a director of Snap also called Howard Bell who resigned in 2005.

Not that good spotting (it's hardly hidden), stupid deduction. eziWeb does Snaps hosting for them and has nothing to do with them otherwise - I sold my shares in Snap- 5 or 6 years ago. The only reason we're involved is that
a. we're paying the hosting bill that the liquidator stopped a few weeks ago
b. we're helping Snap out as they don't want to get bombarded with calls from clients of another company that they can't help
c. we're helping people retrieve their sites _irrespective_ of where they are moving them.
d. if we hadn't stepped into help, ALL the sites would be down still, the servers would have been repossessed by the leasing company and no-one would have had anyone to contact and no way of retrieving their sites.
e. no-one has hijacked anything - the IP addresses were repooled, Snap redirected them to us so we could help with (hundreds) of client queries.

The only reason that access is so limited is that no-one local has the root or admin passwords so if a service isn't running, we can't activate it since we don't have root access to the servers. If people _authorise_ us to retrieve their sites AND provide us with the login information we will do what we can, if they don''t have them, there is nothing we can do to help. It's a pity that with all your sleuthing around you didn't think of the obvious thing and actually just email us to ask!! The "iffy" questions you need to be asking are why did it get liquidated in the first place and what/whom prevented the companies being sold as a going concern rather than letting them get switched off as they were.

I have a copy of the Sale of Memorandum from the liquidator and there were approx 680 active clients, of these the majority had 2 or more domains and some had far more under reseller accounts, so, it's definitely more than 1000, most likely about 1500 and _possibly_ up to a couple of thousand at a stretch (depending on in you include Safi/JetHost/247 as a single company. If you want to fee sorry for someone, have a think about the people who are owed the reported $600,000 (according to NZ Herald) who didn't get paid or the clients who pre-paid their hosting and may have permanently lost their sites e.g., NZ Fertiility
