Nope it does indeed seem that they are down. Dunno if it's due to Liquidation or what;

Delorean: the main site is down, and some of the websites i know of they host are down too

I heard quietly a few weeks ago that they were likely closing the doors (at the end of July), I'm surprised it took them until now.  They actually weren't a too bad host from a technical stand point (relatively speaking that is, given the general technical prowess of low cost hosts, it's perhaps not saying much), shame they couldn't make it work from a business one.

I hope everybody who hadn't got out had backups, I know a few got a heads up and vacated in time, but don't know if that was extended to everybody, last time I looked at their site it appeared they were still taking new signups.

If they did take cPanel backups, any cPanel host will be able to get them up and running quickly.

Yes anyone affected, please PM me, and I can hook you up with the host I use. If you have a recent  CPanel full backup, all settings and files should be able to be restored.

I had heard they were in liquidation, and they operate a couple of different brands, so I wonder if that is the reason why they are down.

Just got the following email:

Hello,

My name is Daniel and I am the Manager at Web Drive, who are the .nz Registrar Supplier to Jethost.

I am emailing you today because your email address is listed as a contact for one or more Jethost Domain contacts.

If this is not relevant to you I apologise for the interruption.

The reason for this email is because our business has been inundated with calls from Jethost customers who have today found their websites no longer working.

As a bit of background, we operate a .nz Domain Registrar named Domain Agent, which wholesales .nz services to companies like Jethost.

In recent months Jethost was placed in liquidation, and during that time we have endeavoured to acquire the business and minimise any potential disruption to customers' services.

Today the server Jethost houses its customers on was switched off resulting in most of its clients losing service.

Under our agreement with Jethost we are making contact with you because their business appears to be no longer operating, and our attempts to contact them have been fruitless.

We will be happy to help you with your Domain name and hosting issues, whether it is moving to one of our services or moving to another webhost.

Please note however that we are only the wholesale supplier of .nz Domains and we do not have any access to their server or customer files.

If I can be of assistance with getting your company back online please reply to this email and I will work to get a solution in place for you.

Regards
Daniel

This is a pretty bad situation for all involved.

If you are a Jet Host customer and your domain name is stuck, contact Daniel per his email and we will do our best to help you out.

I note that they now have a notice on their website, from a company called eziweb. Who is this eziweb, I have never heard of them.

Important Notice for Safi Technology Customers

Please note that Safi Technologies, & 24/7 hosting have been placed into liquidation. The liquidators requested that the hosting supplier (Snap Internet) terminate hosting services on the Safi servers this morning (20/08/2010)

We are working closely with Snap to get your sites online again as soon as possible. If your site is affected, please send us an email with your domain name and contact details and we will get back to you shortly with instructions.

Please note that we have nothing to do with Safi Technologies or it's affiliated companies but are working hard to get your sites moved and active again so please bear with us.
You can also call us on 0800 394 932 - if the phones are busy, please leave a message, we will be working on this throughout the weekend

Kind Regards

The director of eziWeb is Mr Howard Bell.

There was a director of Snap also called Howard Bell who resigned in?2005.

NB: That info is thanks to coys.co.nz which is great for finding these relationships?http://www.coys.co.nz/director-search/?q=BELL,+Howard+

{MOD EDIT : SP : Howard (mindtpi) has clarified the situation on the 3rd page of this thread}

Nothing strange... They can just put a server there and serve the same page to all domains pointing to the IP address. If the IP address is in their range and terminates in their datacentre, this is easy.

This is very different from actually accessing customers' data stored in a third party server that might not belong to them.

Yes, but is it moral to do that, if you have no association with the companies in any form. I understand how you can technically do it, but I am not sure if the liquidators would be pleased, if they are still trying to get value out of the existing business by selling it.

I wouldn't be happy if my website was hosted by jethost, and it then displayed a message from some third party touting for business.

Sure, true enough that, I guess if Snap has reclaimed the IP allocation and/or server they can assign it to whomever they wish.

Not what you know but who you know as the saying goes.

Edit: and by "it" I mean the IP, not the server and it's data, which (the data) should be off-limits without permission.
