I had support tickets sitting unanswered with 24/7 for many days, and double-charging on domain registrations which I was asking for a refund. When the number changed from permanently engaged to disconnected, I moved everything to Hostbee. As good as Hostbee's migration and support was, there were still hiccups and it sucked time making sure everything was sorted (updated DNS etc), but I'm very glad I made the move, especially in light of how it looks like 24/7 have folded.

NZ hosting does seem to be a minefield. You get a company that's good for a couple of years, and then either gets too big or bought out and it all turns to custard. The appeal of local hosting for NZ sites and supporting the local industry is there, but sometimes it seems like you're banging your head against a wall.

I was with Hosting Direct - and I still am for some services - but they were a great company about 3 years ago, got bought out, and their prices jumped 30% without warning. Ridiculous, and part of the reason I started up with 24/7.

I'm hoping HostBee will prove stayers. So far they seem very switched on.

Ps. I'm not sure that comments about 24/7 like "it was obvious they were bad" help for those stung by them. You can have very different experiences with hosting companies depending on your individual situation. And companies can go through transition periods where their service levels fall down for a bit, and then jump up again. And no-one wants to be moving their hosting every few months it's a major PITA. So I certainly understand why some people will be stung after hoping things would end up okay when they looked wobbly. If I'd left it a few days later, then I'd be caught too; in fact, I'll still probably lose some money on the overcharging they did...
