I am just trying to help a good friend whose site I built. She assures me she has not given her UDAI to anyone, infact she has the original one from when she had the domain set up and doesnt even know how to get one or login to her domain name herself - complete novice. I tried the UDAI and it is no longer valid. Yet I can see from a WHO IS the details have changed in the last month. She insists she has not authorised any change or committed to a change of hosting in writing so of course she did not expect an invoice. I am just trying to do the right thing by her and donate her a years hosting since she has just recently forked out for a years hosting.
That would be impossible, your friend would have had to either a. request the UDAI from the current registrar (the registrar will_only_ email the UDAI to that email address) and forwarded it on. Or, b. if, as you say, she already had it from when the domain name was set up, she would have had to have forwarded it on herself - no-one else will have it and no-one else can get it. Even the registrars can't see the current UDAI, they can only reset them (and they expire by themselves after a couple of months I think)
If it worked any other way, no-ones domains would be safe.
One registrar I used in the past, their system actually displays the UDAI in the control panel, rather than emails it to you. If they had the login details to the domain management system, they can change the registrants email address and then get the UDAI emailed to that new address.

That's true I've seen that in the past - but I think it automatically changes at regular intervals. Anyway, you still need the client login to view it so the end user still has to supply to another registrar to move it
Just got an email from Jethost. They are up and running again!
Too bad I've already switched my stuff over to Discount. I wonder how many of their customers did nothing with the website and emails over the last few weeks and stayed with Jethost?

At least if it's still running they can retrieve the sites and move them elsewhere now.

I suspect there will be a few, but the smart ones would have left already. AT leasty it gives the opportunity to get your files back, if you hadn't made backups. I am just wondering who is running it. The receivers were running it, as Safi who owned it had gone into liquidation, and the recievers were trying to sell it to pay back the creditors. Its value has obviously dropped since they switched off their servers. Really weird situation.

As I know the liquidators walked away from it when they originally terminated the hosting and he is behind/involved the the Jethost operation running out of the State/Canada now - I'm not commenting on that any further in case we get more bizarre legal threats.
I think the only bit the liquidators are still involved with is 247 hosting as it still pings to a Snap IP address so I guess they still have control of that while they try to sell it (it was all the really budget host accounts of the company anyway and worth stuff all)
