My site seems to be going down more often then not, so I question them as to why with this result.

That specific error happens when the database server's maximum connections are reached, not when your specific maximum connections are reached. If it was you, you'd see something like "Max Connections" so this means you're not hitting your 10 connection limit.

I've asked our system administrators if they can increase the maximum amount of connections to the database server, they said that it's not being overloaded, so it can handle the amount of connections it currently has.

We constantly monitor our database connections, unfortunately due to a large amount of Joomla and Wordpress attacks lately the connections have been under more pressure. Increasing the amount of connections to relieve the pressure would not help as these connections would all be used up as well at times when the sites are under attack.

We will continue to monitor the situation and disable sites where necessary.

Thoughts?

how are you hosted? Sounds like you're on a shared server, is your site particularly database intensive?

Doesn't sound like a very helpful response - sounds like they've also inherited the lousy service from the old HD as well as the clients.

I moved all my stuff away from HD a number of years ago because of poor service, plenty of other hosts around who can provide better service and keep your website up.

Have they answered your question? I have found with hosting, that in general, the less you pay for hosting, the more sites you will be sharing the server with. Perhaps time to look for other hosting if you aren't getting help?

"You can rent a VPS for a few dollars a month and run your own database." - A wise cat.
