Got mine this morning. Pretty impressed, will give it a good stress out when I load up all my apps. Will give it a week before I go with Launcher Pro though.

A small update to battery performance for those interested...

Battery drain overnight on idle was 7% over 8.5 hours suggesting around 120 hours standby on my configuration. lokhor has even better results, but he can fill you in.

One thing we've noticed is that the Sensation syncs quite frequently. By default, some unimportant processes auto-sync so my initial thought is that any new owner would be well advised to drop auto-sync on stuff that's not needed. You can always sync manually when you wish.

Doing some in-depth testing of network performance over the weekend. When the other testers have done theirs, we'll post the results. So stand by caller...

Just a quick reiteration that the experience in Sense was smooth and intuitive. Different to TouchWiz in some ways but still very familiar if you've owned an Android device before. So far, so nice. I've just installed LauncherPro for a comparison so I'll update that factor as soon as I've had time to fairly judge it.

Without wanting to sound stupid, why are people ordering this from overseas?

Is it not available in NZ in the moment? I thought that it was available for $869 NZ from some NZ suppliers (even if it is parallel imported). That includes a one year warranty.

How much does it cost buying from somewhere like Clove - I note it is 415 pounds (excl. VAT), which equates to approx $820 NZ. Add on GST and you're looking at $940 (excluding the credit card currency conversion costs of approx 2.5%).

I'm guessing that the $869 NZ is not the full NZ price or they're 'currently unavailable' and will be for some time?

Thanks guys!

Clove will sell you a clean unbranded phone. Most parallel imported ones are from the Asian market and have chinese language apps on them you can't remove unless you root.
Also often Clove are cheaper. Seems the parallel importers may have sharpened their prices lately. When I ordered my Desire Clove were the cheapest. Also they had stock when others didn't

If you're on XT, you'll need a compatible handset to get the full smartphone experience, and right now you can't import such a beast as far as I'm aware. Some early adopters and/or carrier-phobes prefer to import while others are happier with parallel imports - just a preference based on previous experience I'd say.

But YMMV.

Thanks TheUngeek and ArtooDetoo - I don't care if I have a 'branded' phone as long as it is unlocked. I'm currently with 2degrees and very happy with them.

I'm running an unbranded unlocked HTC Desire which I got in the UK when I lived there. So much better to pay upfront then be locked in to a plan for 12 or 24 months.

Oooh, just thought - if a phone was branded, would this potentially impact on roll out of Android updates? I suspect it may...

Yes it will. You need to wait for the carrier who's software it's running releases the update

It'll be good to get some comparisons of network vs network since you're on VF or 2Degrees. Welcome to the Sensation owners collective. :D

Or root it as another option? That would remove need for reliance on carrier dependence wouldn't it?

Currently the HTC  Sensation has a locked bootloader so you cannot get root.
