I'm in the same situation, phone is a VFNZ subsidised jobbie bought from JB Hifi

When you go to "Settings" and the select "Voice input and output settings" what does it say under the Voice Recognition tab? Google or something else like Vlingo.

Is it the same as the below two screenshots?

wazza102: Hi guys, I got my S2 from JB Hifi yesterday and I'm pretty pleased with it. I came from iOS so not yet familiar with Android, rooting etc. it's all numbers and letters to me

how many hours/days do you get of usage on the S2?

I'm currently charging. On the last charge I got 13 hours, but that included the time I didn't use it (sleeping!). With the screen on I only managed to get around 5 hours. Is that reasonable? I know dual core 1.2ghz so it uses heaps of power etc. etc. but just wanting to get an idea what you guys get from it.

I'm running Gingerbread 2.3.3 XWKG3. What firmware are you on and what's the best battery are you getting?

You should be able to get 2 days or more, with moderate use.

Anything using mobile internet, or having the screen on for hours (movies, games) will eat into the battery fast.

Your 13 hours seems a bit short, I suggest you strip out any apps you have added, and then do a process of elimination on them until you find the culprit.

I regularly go through 24 hours and still have 85% or more battery left - but i'm not playing films or games though...

FAQ update:

Have done some minor editing and tidying up of the formatting on the FAQ (see link in my sig).

Thanks to those who have contributed some info so far. Feel free to leave a comment via the google docs comments system (at top) to let me know who did what, credit, etc.

I have just started a new section on improving battery life. Feel free to contribute, we need a few screen shots lol.

Thanks everyone.

HellcatDroid on XDA has developed a companion tool for his kernel that includes simple efs partition back-up and restoration, and also removal of the yellow triangle, while keeping the kernel you want.

I've still got my usb jig so am not currently afflicted by the triangle. I'll be sure to try it out next time I flash though.

Here's the link.

Right, so now my charge from yesterday has lasted 23 hours. Currently charging now again.

How many hours do you get with the display actually being on? I know that I can get plenty if it's just on sleep. But with actual usage?

I used to get between 4 and 5 hours, depending on what I was doing.

I usually get about 2.5 days usage out of my phone. Still have to charge every second night cause I cant rely on half a day. (;

Its Samsungs 2.3.4 standard ROM, with decent usage. I use my phone as main communication device during the day with Exchange/email sync during the day (3 accounts), phone (about 1-2h/day, yeah for phone conferences!), maps, MP3 player and as consumer device at night for that little time I have left of my day. I even have a life wall paper! When my phone is off it consumes about 1% / h.

I just noticed that the choice of ROM is not as important for saving battery life, its all the apps and widgets you install. Even if you dont use them quite a few have background services running that keep the phone awake or even consume data.

A few other tips:

After the initial "new toy" phase is over, wipe your device, install the latest rom and only install apps/widgets you are going to use.

Do not use Samsung Social Hub and dont create a Samsung account. Yes you cannot use the Find my Phone feature from Samsung, but every thief with a little brain will discard your SIM card first and also wipe your phone.

Do you really need push email? Syncing every hour or 30min should be ok for most people. That comes from someone who somtimes spends the whole day out of the office.

Be aware of which application you update. It already happened twice to me that I upgraded all my apps from the market and suddenly my phone refused to go to sleep. You have to check the running services to find the app keeping your phone awake. My last culprit was Camera360. Only after an update it had a service running that refused to be disabled. A camera app. Why? I had to uninstall the app.

I will post some screenshots later once I manage to upload them.

I'm on Cognition 1.5, which is KH3-based.  The modem seems as good as the KG5 that I was running previously (which is actually newer than the KG6 you're running).
