I do have one small issue though and this was there before the update, but if I use the phones system launcher and long press to remove an app,
at the top of the screen where you drag it to, there is the trash icon with I am guessing the word - delete in Chinese. How can I get rid of that and make it English, without having to do a factory reset?

Haven't seen that in any of the test units, could you share a screenshot?

I found the problem, it was actually a theme doing it, X Pro to be precise.

I then quizzed them about the 'swap warranty', a key selling point from my perspective. They countered with "only if the phone was less than a month old". I showed them these pages, but they weren't budging.

Terribly sorry for this, the Penrose service team has had a stern reminder about the nature of the swap warranty. Any further issues with warranty or service, please email service@pbtech.co.nz and I'll ensure it's followed up.

Before you take it for service for the 2degrees MMS issues, however, I would appreciate it if you gave a new test build a whirl to see if it resolves the problem. Fortunately/unfortunately, you're the only one reporting any MMS issues with 2degrees, we've not been able to replicate it; this new build addresses MMS issues with Spark, but will be worth trying............. If you encounter any issues with Google Play Services following the installation, this can be fixed by opening the 'Hot Apps' application and reinstalling or repairing Google Services. The device will usually send a notification if this is required.

Life has been fairly full on lately, so have not had time to provide follow up.

I followed your advice and installed the test build. Quite a mission really, as it would not install without a complete factory reset first. Followed all my tried and tested steps to backup everything beforehand. The install then went through okay. The restore of the backup....not so much. It took a lot work to get that almost right. Most of my call history and SMS is back. Emails I'm not overly concerned about, as I have them on my desktop anyway. But 'Contacts', less than half are there. Maybe this week I might have time to dig into that further.

As you'll note by my screenshot, when I tested MMS receipt after the update all worked fine. That was up until this past week when someone tried to send me a picture, I was stymied with a similar result. I have used this screenshot has it shows a shot that worked two weeks ago and another from this morning.

I've even gone so far as to uninstall all my apps and am back to using native tools for the launcher and messaging. Still no dice.

As it is, this may ultimately be a non-issue as it looks like due to coverage issues I may giving up on 2Degrees and will head back to Vodafone. My biggest client has just moved into a very patchy 2Degrees area and for me to receive calls and SMS, I need to manually change provider on the phone. A rather cumbersome process to have to go through when nearing arriving on site and remembering to do it when departing. There doesn't seem to be a surefire auto handover from one to other. Quite infuriating.

The plus side of the update is better touch response (although I've had a few issues in the last 24 hours). As for battery life....Wow! With Bluetooth, WLAN and 4G going I can easily miss one night of charging. About a 50% improvement over what I was getting before.

You'll also note the infinity symbol in the screenshot. That's been there since the 'update'. In hunting to find what may be causing it, I found Opera Max installed. I don't where this came from, it's not something I intentionally installed and the 'uninstall' button is greyed out. Curious.

That's most unusual - we still haven't had any other reports of issues with MMS on the 2degrees network, and you absolutely should not have had to factory reset before installing the beta build. What errors were you presented with when attempting install without factory resetting?

I would suggest swapping this unit out when you do have an opportunity. The Penrose service team has been sent a timely reminder about the swap warranty. :)

Meizu have partnered with Opera to provide free VPN services, useful for travellers and so on. Open the app and disconnect it all and you won't see the notification again.

My wife did the update and it removed Play Store. You can restore it through the Hot Apps thing and install GMS Install and then run a repair.

I don't know if it had any effects in terms of performance or anything

Meizu only have one global software build per device, the regional testing is done in beta versions before the code is merged.

The update to fix Spark MMS and various other good things started to roll out a few days back, but Meizu have paused it temporarily while they iron out a few issues. Shouldn't be long before it resumes.

If anyone does lose the Play Store, just reinstall it through Hot Apps and you'll be good to go.

I'll drop a link to the updated version in this thread as soon as Meizu send it through.

There was, but Meizu pulled it while they fix it.

Adds the Weather app, swipe up on the homescreen for on-device search, updates the stock browser and other stock apps, improves colour and contrast, improves focus in the camera, root access should now work as expected, assorted fixes for standby drain and battery drain, changes up the icon sizes and adds the option to switch between the old and new floating action button design under settings/accessibility, plus the Spark MMS fixes. There'll be more, that's off the top of my head.

Are you still interested in feedback on apps not behaving correctly?

I use the"Signal messaging app - and I am unable to enter a number or name when creating a new message - I can only select from existing contacts. Works fine on my other Android devices.

I always enter phone numbers as +64... but not everyone does it on their social profiles so when I have Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn syncing to Android's phonebook you start having things like 21xxxxx instead of 021xxxx or +6421xxxx.

I used Signal (on other devices) and stopped when they could correctly identify a user and show the name on messages coming from 21xxxx but I couldn't reply to these messages because Signal refused to send SMS replies to these same numbers. Worst I would manually enter +6421xxxx and Signal would automatically change to 21xxxx as per phonebook and refuse to Send. Reported to Signal, never heard back, decided it was too unreliable despite security.

Just use something else. I use FB Messenger to send pictures (MMS prices are a joke, specially when roaming) and just plain SMS for messages (again unless roaming).
