Thanks Mauricio. I have never experienced any issues like that myself - on Android - has always worked well for me. But yes - I may have to find an alternative.

(MMS prices are a joke, specially when roaming)

Without going too far off-topic - although relevant to this thread given the Spark MMS issues on the M3 Note - MMS is great as long as you don't have to pay for it yourself. Business users love it, telco staff love it, but then when they have to pay for it personally, they switch to something else. Got most of my family shifted to WhatsApp now to save 50c a pop, plus making sure data is enabled without smashing low-rent Prepay allowances is a headache and a half. I would have gladly paid up to $10/month for unlimited MMS on account after using it on the daily with a work SIM. Now, 50c is awfully hard to stomach for such low-res images.

That said, we had a number of business users who were champing at the bit for that beta build, so glad it's been sorted regardless.

So what's the story? Can I update my unit with the software offered then and if needed just reinstall Google Play? Can I get the Google Play from apkmirror?

It has a built-in installer for all the Google Play services should they be removed or become corrupted for whatever reason, it's available in the (questionably-named) 'Hot Apps' application.

The phones 'should' prompt to install Play Services and reboot if those are ever removed or stop working due to an OTA.

Anyone have a problem with SD card unmounting , and then later a message coming up saying SD card detected. Only photos are on this SD card, A restart fixes it. But then falls on and off randomly. Card fits snuggly, no trouble with the sim card. Has started happening since update.

Yep, I also get a message saying the SD card is damaged.

I haven't had any issue with SD cards. Currently running Flyme 5.1.11.0G, which the Update app tells me is the most current.

An interesting observation, one of the guys in the office has the same specced M3, but his has a different model number (his is L, mine is M), the L has a lower version of Flyme as the most up to date. Does the "International" model run a different version of Flyme, or is it just slower at being updated?

I feel like an orphan (no offence intended), all this talk of an update and mine says it is up to date at Ver. 5.6.10.11G.

When did it update? That'd be over a week ago, after my last post, when I tried to resolve the MMS issue again. I went through the process of resetting the phone etc. But I never lost 'Play".

I did notice a change in Google Messenger and Play icons. The former being completely different in visual presentation than its former version, while the latter seems visually larger, by about 10%. And Firefox crashes on a very regular basis, whereas previously it was the most stable browser.

One more project to complete this year then I can either focus time and energy resolving the quirks, or just look for an alternate device. A pity, because there's much to like about this unit.

There's two different hardware variants - L68 and M68. L68 is the earlier of the two. No major differences, just produced in different factories with a few different suppliers for internal components.

Meizu rolls OTA updates out in batches to avoid smashing their servers, all variants will receive the updates soon enough - or they can be updated manually once the link for manual download is available.

5.6.10.11G is the latest beta update, 5.1.11.0G is the latest stable update. They are essentially the same thing.

Google updated the icon for Messenger recently. There's a setting in the software under accessibility to toggle between two different icon sizes. There's also a setting under personalisation to theme the Google app icons (or not).

You can switch back to the stable update channel once the link to download the latest stable build is available, I should have this today or tomorrow.

Look forward to the stable release. Be good to weigh it up.

I use the Google Now launcher, versus the Flyme offerings. Makes for a neater 'home screen' and makes life quieter and simpler for those occasions my wife picks it up. A little more familiar for her. I suspect that like the Messenger icon, the 'Play' icon size is more to do with Google than anything else. When I first saw it I thought "EvilCorp is at it again..."

Hiya.

I have just bought the M3S, and I really like it.

The only thing that disappoints is that my previous phone allowed me to move apps to an external SD card, and in the Meizu its not available/blocked.

Is there anyway around this, because otherwise I see myself running out of space way too soon?

This feature is omitted by design in many smartphones which have a hybrid dual SIM slot - they're designed to use either 2x SIM cards or 1x SIM + 1x Micro SD. They're also designed to be hot-swappable, i.e. you can switch SIMs without powering the phone off and on. Doing so with apps on the SD card would be bad times.

Storing apps on SD cards is generally a bad idea given internal storage is much faster, more reliable, and less volatile. SD cards are best used as media storage.

You will unfortunately need a phone with more internal storage to store more apps than the 16GB capacity will hold.

Bugger...

Oh, well that will be an excuse to buy another phone...

Thanks for taking the time to answer.

Cheers

No worries - best to get as much internal memory as you need. M3 Note comes in 32GB if need be.

Also - M3 Note folks - Meizu have confirmed they've pulled the current OTA and are fixing a few issues so folks shouldn't have to reinstall Google apps et cetera. Should resume before the end of the month, and we'll have local mirrors up to update manually as well.
