Skruff: vinnieg - Re Advanced Task Killer, I've found 'Open Advanced Task Killer' and 'Advanced Task Cleaner Pro' - is one of these the correct
one? Is either better? Or should I try again?

I used to be amongst the great unwashed mass of unbelievers and used a task killer of some sort - can't remember what I used but I've tried a couple of them. Then one day my phone crashed...well, HTC Sense UI packed it in. I'm pretty sure the Task Killer I used caused it. Another HTC Desire owner here had the same experience too. I'm not sure if this will happen on the Galaxy S with its different launcher though.

The upshot is task killers are not needed. I have been happily using my phone without it and have not noticed any performance hit whatsoever. One thing I use is Task Switcher. Basically I need to know what's running and how I can switch to it quickly without having to find the app icon again.

By all means use a task killer if you like but be warned. From experience I have found it is not necessary at all. I'm sure there are people out there using task killers with Android 2.1 with no hassles whatsoever so YMMV...

You don't need a task manager to "autokill" anything. That just makes things worse. What you can use them for is if there's something taking up all your CPU time and burning through your battery in ~5 hours. Which happened to me. I uninstalled said app and the problem disappeared.

So again, DO NOT use a task killer to autokill anything. If an app is misbehaving so much that you'd need one, uninstall the app..

You see these phones are on the samsung nz website now?
What is interesting is they list navigation there, i wonder if that means google navigation will be enabled for nz? that would be nice...

Also has anyone worked out how to turn the keyboard beeps off in the samsung keyboard?

Um, goto Settings, then Security, turn it to LOW:

Then add a few apps to the ignore list, mainly the launcher, the gmail, advert providers etc, so it won't kill anything you want to keep running, works well on mine, always have lots of RAM free and it's pretty speedy, but yeah I agree, the first time I used it, I accidentally killed the Touchwiz and Launcher apps :S which resulted in a freeze, but the launcher came back after a bit

I didn;t think there was a local NZ Samsung website...I was under the impression we were stuck with the Aussie one for local contect.

That is it :) i havent tested it though, but cool :)

Works well. Tried it with an iPad the other day and got about 1Mbps throughput, which was a bit slower than the 2Mbps I got from the handset before and after testing on the iPad. Still very usable though.

Go back to Android Market, click on Downloads > Advanced Task Killer, and there should be an option to uninstall.

Alternatively: Home > Settings > Applications > Manage Applications > Advanced Task Killer Free > Uninstall

You can turn keypad sounds off in Settings --> Sound and Display.

I agree on not needing a Task Killer or anything similar, haven't used one yet on my Android handsets and performance hasn't really been a worry.

WiFi tether works very nicely, even has WPA security :)
