I just installed a premade silver circle mod with the extended power menu + aosp lockscreen. I seriously hate the touchwiz lockscreen. Any chance you could make me a zip for extended power menu +aosp lockscreen + version C,D or F (the coloured circles) battery theme.

Still tempted to install Dena as it changes the look of it all, but not keen to be unable to change back.

Completely new to this, phone is great step up from the old iphone 3g though.?

Have you tried to upgrade the phone in kies first?
Best to backup efs before using odin to flash JPO.

The stock lockscreen has the ability to change the music track without unlocking the phone, which i found useful.

Get the theme you have already applied
unzip it
upload the framework to UTC kitchen and get the new framework
rezip it
apply in CWM

Where did you fail?
Open the custom .zip that you created
Check that it has 2 directories in the root of the zip (framework and meta-inf)
original i made my zip look like
/Custom Theme/framework/ & /Custom Theme/meta-inf/
instead of /framework/ & /meta-inf/
and couldn't work out where i had gone wrong.

Kies didn't have any updates but I actually used the z4root and its all good now. Backed up my efs and the stock firmware and am now running doc XXJPO. Very happy with it.

What about taking a copy of the swype.apk on the phone before flashing the new rom. Would someone mind checking the zip from Docs thread to confirm. Wouldn't ordinarily ask but I only have mobile internet and trying to avoid paying for the CEOs bonus single handedly ;)

Hi Neets.

I'd be happy to do what you ask if I understood what you need, but regrettably I'm a little confused.

Doc's thread has the link to the '6' ROM version ot the Swype apk, the multi language version KJ referenced. IIRC, you're currently running ver six point something? That Swype will install fine on your mod.

For some mysterious reason, Doc doesn't include Swype in his app pack combos, but supplies individual versions to match his ROMs as separate downloads - presumably for compatability resons, although it's not explicitly stated.

I have a nagging suspicion that I'm telling you what you already know, so feel free to shake your head, roll your eyes and sigh deeply before ignoring this post, if that's the case.

On a completely different note, I had a few issues getting the Brut Maps mod to stick on my SGS. Basically it errored with "Application not installed". Googling got me some posts suggesting that updating Maps to the latest version then reverting to an older backup would do the biz, but no go. I backed the Maps app up with Titanium, and then recovered it, but that didn't work either. Then I used the Market to uninstall it but predictably that didn't work.

In the end I used Settings>Applications manager to kill the app and deleted data before uninstalling it from there. Went back to Titanium and restored the app and deleted it again. Installed the Brut modded app and whoop-de-do, it finally worked. Not certain what was going on there, but I now have turn-by-turn which has actually made Navigation useful. Looks like a 'proper' GPS app now. :)

So looking for an excuse to give it a real test, being Sunday and all, with a Sunday drive.

Interesting, in over a month on JPK I never felt any burning need to lagfix, then in a fit of boredom yesterday I flashed CF Root and then Voodoo Pre 6, and I have to say that the phone is noticeable nicer to use post-voodoo.

I'm trying out the Doc_Kalpik 7.6.2 ROM now. Battery life is not so good but going to give it a few cycles before final judgement.

Sounds like a bit of fiddling finally resulted in a proper GPS app. Glad it's working for you.
I'll copy my swype.apk to my external sd card before flashing the updated rom.
Run ended up being just over 5 hours. Saw the canyon bungy thing. Took photo - as you do. Too dizzying for my tastes.

Might go for voodoo lagfix before deciding to flash newer rom. I like v6 except swype now lags something awful.

Q: is there a way to get the phone to request your PIN. I turned mobile internet off and later rebooted my phone. It never asked for my PIN. So had to turn mobile data back on & reboot again. Have I missed something or is that really the only way to be able to enter your PIN?

there were some complaints in the swype thread re: lag, and some comments that installing the latest swype.zip in the doc thread (?the JPA version, but you can check version #s in the thread) fixed this problem. Don't forgot if you install voodoo you have to uninstall it before doing any sort of upgrading. If you are on the doc rom they don't recommend you install voodoo, they recommend you install the lagfix built into the CWM menu, check thread for details.

Not certain neets, but my Nokia had two PIN settings - a global one and a call one. The call one was a PITA, but the global (homescreen) one was the canine's cojones. My recommendation, FWIW.

Haven't set up any security on my SGS yet, so your question is a timely prompt for me.

5 hour run? Lordy that's serious athleticism Neets. I have to believe that you're competitive rather than a 'fun' runner. Any national titles to skite about?... (just a yes/no reply is fine, this being the web 'n all).

I hope you don't have the wrong impression about my sporting ability. This is an endurance event.it will likely take me 10 hours. I can probably outlast,but a long way back from the leaders. Competitive with myself. I'm nothing but average.

The PIn number isn't security I set up on the phone. It just is. Don't you have to enter a PIN number to make calls? Without it, its just emergency calls.

How did your further GPS test go?

you can add a pin swype to the lockscreen. so you can't use the phone without entering a pin, is this what you want?

Actually, I don't have a PIN for calls. Don't remember ever having one, to be honest. I have a VF PIN for my account and such, but calls are always on. I do think a PIN (or pattern) protected home screen is a grand idea though and I have only just completed doing that.

GPS was excellent. This device certainly takes the place of a dedicated GPS for me, although I'm sure there are many good reasons for such a dedicated machine. But I doubt that I'll ever need one unless I'm flying, though most aircraft have GPS wired into the panel these days, so...

When my phone boots up it has a screen asking me for a PIN. Without it I only have emergency calls. If I disable mobile data & reboot the phone doesn't prompt for the PIN, finishes booting but I can only make emergency calls
I want a way of putting the PIN I'm prompted for when booting without having to reboot the phone.
