NZtechfreak: I have Tasker set to read text sender names and text bodies while I'm driving, it even pauses music playback to do it and then resumes once done! (it knows I'm driving because the contexts are power and headset plugged in).

+1 although in my case it knows from the Bluetooth handsfree

@NZtechfreak could you share your tasker profile for this? - I could definitely use it

nofam: I took the plunge last night and upgraded to ADJP5. . . . .

Wow. . . . coming from JH1 it's like a different phone; even with the Voodoo lagfix on Eclair it still seemed jerky in comparison to to how silky-smooth and responsive it is now.

GPS seems to be slightly improved, as does web-browsing.

Eclair + VLF = dragster (raw power, great on straights)
JP5 = Ferrari (Silky smooth acceleration out of the corners)

I'm a happy little Nofam :=)

One other question occurred; back int eh day I seem to remember someone (NZTechFreak maybe?) mentioning a patch to improve the sound quality. . . . .I'm going to be replacing the head unit in my car with something that can take an aux. input, so the quality is fairly important (not that it's bad now!).

Just by-the-by, in terms of a good music player, I've been using 3 quote a bit lately, and have just discovered PowerAMP - has anyone else had a dabble with this?

Further to this, here is Kilack's original post on sound quality - does anyone know if the headphone issue has been fixed in subsequent upgrades?

I suggest you read this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=758326
That is an audioboost app that lets you increase the amp in the sgs, its set low because of european regulations possibly.

Then read this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=735918&highlight=music

That is about sorting out the actual quality of the audio in the sgs.

There's recommendations in one of the threads for an app called AudioBoost 2?

Further questions for you knowledgeable peeps:

I read in the Doc kalpik release notes that the camera app is one of the basic's included in the ROM - however it seems to be the 'old' standard camera app, rather than the updated Froyo one?

I noticed a new camera when upgrading from 2.1 -> Doc's 7.6.2 w/ med+full package.

Hmmm it seems I can now no longer receive calls - like others on XDA, when an incoming call hits the phone, my reception disappears completely, disconnecting the call.  It then pops back to full reception.

Bu*ger!!

Any ideas?

Thanks Wazz - just downloading JPO now.

Is the process for going to another Kalpik ROM the same as going from a stock Eclair ROM? i.e. can I just boot into CWM, clear the caches, disable lagfix, and select the JPO rom from the sdcard?

There are instructions for upgrading right under the "first time installation" instructions.

Yes, you should (Doc recommended) disable your lag fix.
Reboot
Go to recovery and use the CWM option to:
Apply the Zip file (not the update.zip method)

You don't need to clear the cache, but it wont hurt to do so.

Thanks neets; so you've had no issues with making calls? My IMEI number looks fine, so I'm somewhat at a loss.

Neets:

I really had no reason to move off V6 to V8 but I thought the battery might have been better.? V8 has practically no battery drain when it's idol.

Since powering to full last night at 9:45, my battery is showing 67%.? So since this morning (which dropped quickly when I was reading XDA in bed) it's hardly been used.

I still think it drains quickly when you do use the phone as more than a paperweight ;-)

I don't have anything I consider to be a problem with the phone, other than Handcent not audibly telling me I've got a SMS.

Still on Doc's 7.5. Unplugged 12.36 hours ago and battery stats shows 75% charge remaining. Not too shabby since I had the GPS running as I drove home and got numerous emails, txts and calls during the day, visited the NZ Herald website to check on the miners, and Geekzone to watch what you're up to, and so on.

Didn't watch any vids today. Those things burn battery like there's no tomorrow, so I tend to watch 'em while plugged in.

Oh, and had my 'noises' playing on the commute as well. So I'm happy with that.

Cheers,
R2D2

Right, so I'll sound Neets no friends.  My last call was from work, while I was on holiday, last Monday.  Oh hang on, I made a call on Friday to a new friend in Queenstown.  Nope, no problems, but they were on an earlier version of the ROM.  I've had no calls made/received since I flashed on Saturday evening.

Crap, I need to find another forum, one where I make friends that call me :P

Is it any consolation if I tell you I only discovered the issue when I called myself? Laughing

Just doing a CWM restore to my Stock JH1 settings to make sure it's viable, and then I'll proceed with JPO.

Glad I'm not the only one having issues with ADJP5 - just goes to show it never pays to be first!!

Yes, it was a consolation ;-)
Ok, my hubby just called me (when I toddled off up the other end of the house) and I can hear him just fine, he can hear me just fine and the call didn't drop out.  We had a full conversation and no problem at all from the phone.
