I'd say it's a fair price (and is cheaper than what I expected, given that nexus devices are usually over-priced locally). The price makes it a viable choice vs' the other phones at their respective retail prices.

2DegreesCare: Nexus 5 coming soon, $699, 24 month warranty

Great price, I will be in for that.  I would prefer the 32GB model so if you could check what the status of that is then even better.  If not, then I will settle for the 16GB.  Will be watching the online store.  I follow the Twitter feed too so I assume it will be announced there?  Don't want to miss the initial shipment.

Why do you guys say that this is such a great price??  If you buy at that price you're just rewarding their greed..   The N4 was  discounted from $799 to $499 after a couple of months as I suspect sales were  not good.   A  NZ$500 would be about correct  unless LG NZ  is creaming it as well..

Because it is a good price. Last year's N4 debuted at $799 for 16gb, while this is $699 for 16gb- the 16gb price point didn't shift on the Play Store (which is subsidised).

If you were to buy it from the US you would sacrifice your warranty (unless you wanted to ship it back to the states), and extra shipping, customs fees and GST bring it to about $580 NZD.

A 'couple of months' is stretching it a bit.. it was more like 5 or 6 months before we saw anyone selling it at $499, and with xmas/boxing day coming up, it's likely we'll see similar sales. It's nothing to do with dwindling popularity- just look at the GS4 or any device (excluding the iPhone) a few months later- launches at $1050 and slowly come down to $800.

At the end of the day this is a great device for a great price. 2Degrees and LG can't subsidise the device in the same way Google can, unless you want to sign up for a contract. The $100 difference in RRP is hugely in contrast to last year, where you could get a $299US 8GB device squeezed in through customs, and the ~$120 gap between importing and purchasing locally here.

If you ask me- that $120 is very much worth it for having a local company to go to in case of any problems, and it also retains more value if you are to resell the phone at a later date.

Well this is abit disturbing.

Nexus 5 is about 130 grams in weight.

The package will probably in total be 350 grams (including phone)

But i've just checked the tracking number on my UPS package given by Google and it says "package weight: 1.9 lbs" .....that's almost 1 KG !!!

Surely youshop will charge me heaps for that :(

International postage is calculated as NZD$12.50 per parcel, plus NZD$4.75 per 500g. The minimum chargeable weight is 500g and is charged in 500g increments thereafter.

Ya so 12.5 + 4.75 + 4.75

The customs fee includes shipping...so that'll likely increase too because of this.

I recall last year pple who ordered the nexus 4 got only charged for the first 500G ....was the package lighter ?

Customs fee includes shipping charged to US companies.. you already pay GST straight to NZ Post with youshop, so your duty won't go up.

Oh right, so it's the shipping from google to youshop.

But what do you mean by  "you already pay GST straight to nz post".

I don't plan on using Youshop to pay the customs..it cost $135 ....my customs will only be around 115.

So i'm gonna pay Customs directly.

I mean that when you pay YouShop to ship your device to NZ from the states, you pay the NZ company, including GST. So when your device comes into the country, you're not liable for GST on the youshop payment, as you've already paid it when you paid NZ Post. Of course the rest of your GST/Customs fees are as normal.

Lucky, my one is still due before the 8th of November. Weird thing is that it said that they were preparing to ship it when I tried to cancel it yesterday, hopefully they do ship it soon.

Have you ordered any cases? I'm curious whether the Spigen, Caseology, etc. cases fit properly. Also if none of you have heard, this case is on discount so I got it sent to the YouShop address as well, hopefully combining shipping if possible (note the code for a $5USD discount. Yep. $5 discount on a $6 case):

Looks like it's fake.

It says "compatible with all versions of nexus 5  : Verizon ...etc"

But....There won't be any nexus 5 for Verizon.

Bah, good point. Someone posted it to /r/android and I ended up ordering it. At least if it ends up being a block of solid plastic or something I won't have wasted too much money.
