Because the ban is on Money transactions,

Huawei are on the entity list of companies that require federal approval to purchase parts and equipment from American firms...

I said that’s O.K., that we will keep selling that product, these are American companies that make these products. That’s very complex, by the way. I’ve agreed to allow them to continue to sell that product so that American companies will continue.

No word yet if this affects the Google move and if anything changes on smartphones.

Yet again we see that Trump's policy is "Whatever was the last thing he heard" after a bunch of companies complained that the ban was costing them money.

If you were Huawei, (or any other non US company) why would you even consider buying this equipment again? Trump seems to act irrationally, what's to stop something similar happening again in the future? Then it's the same story of disruption and uncertainty all over again. Much better to focus on developing a pathway that gets rid of any uncertainty and disruption.

I don't think Trump realises it yet, but his actions will have very big and long lasting affects on many US companies. Anyone outside of the US that currently depends on US technology will start developing their own in house solutions or work with other companies outside of the US.

I guess the other thing that may happen is some companies currently based in the US will move offshore to avoid the impact of Donald's irrational moves.

When you boil it all down the only ones being hurt are those US citizens that would have been employed in the US, the very people Trump was supposedly trying to help. Talk about an own goal.

You can't really trust to buy huawei devices without concern about what's going to change... What chipset will they not be allowed access to next etc.

You can't really trust to buy huawei devices without concern about what's going to change... What chipset will they not be allowed access to next etc.

The longer-term damage of this is far greater for the US than it is for China. If anything it shows how vulnerable the entire tech world is by having most of the IP-generating centres inside the US when the US is prepared to use it as leverage in trade disputes?

I once had a US company try and convince me that they could not legally sell me a flashlight because it was a banned export under ITAR (it wasn't) so I would not rely too much on their judgement!

It was just one of Surefire's range of personal lights. The real issue was that there is a New Zealand supplier who likes charging twice the US price.

I just found another supplier via Amazon I think.

Quite likely that they have restrictive franchising agreements that prohibit a franchisee from either selling out of the area for which they hold the franchise, or from selling in another franchisee's designated area. The latter is more common, and if there is someone who holds the NZ franchise, other franchisees can't legally sell here. Doesn't matter if the NZ franchise is either useless or charging like a wounded bull (or both) the US-based franchisee could lose their franchise if they sold here.

Or they just can't be bothered with that 'foreign' stuff ;-)
