Neets: I changed the framework-res.apk for my phone. I've now got a Mrs Android. I wont waste your time boys with a new screen shot. There's probably little more that would bore you than seeing a pink Android ;-) Anyway, easy as to do. Just find the hex codes you want and Bob's your uncle.

Go you!! :-)  I think what you're doing is great - it epitomizes the Open Source concept.

So how are you finding JP8?  Did you re-apply a lagfix in the end (and if so, which one?)

OK I think I need to remove the voodoo lagfix and revert to stock kernel which came with my phone. I see that voodoo have created backup, but looks like its corrupted. Does anyone have the orignal/stock kernel which came with their XT SGS...Please & Thanks in advance.

Also I understand that Odin can be used to put the Kernel back using the PDA but not sure which options to check and other important bits. Would appreciate if someone can suggest or any walkthrough u r aware of.

Thanks in anticipation

If you log into the Samfirmware website and go to the Firmwares, at the very bottom of the website you'll see some links for the tutorials.  They explain how to use Odin.

Like Kiwijunglist asks, if you're on Voodoo, you should be able to create a subfolder which when you power on the phone will go through the process of undoing the Voodoo lagfix.  Instructions in the link.

Hi nofam.  I didn't apply a lagfix.  My use of my phone yesterday doesn't mirror my every day use.  I was hitting it pretty hard with all the customisation I completed.  Today I've not had a problem with the response.  I'm sure a lag fix would make a noticeable difference.  But what I'm experiencing isn't enough for me to apply a lagfix.  I had my priorities.  Make a pretty pink Android, that's all ;-)

Has anyone else had (or seen mention of) an issue with the 2.2 gallery app; I'm getting silly amounts of duplicate pictures (like 8 of each), which I think is caused by the contents of the .thumbnail directories in the DCIM directory. . . . .I can delete the directories, but they seems to re-propagate each time the gallery loads??

Slightly O/T

Been really interesting checking out Android now since getting my Captivate.. I was an early adapter before the official first handset, the T-Mobile G1 was released. Think this was early 2008 with a port to my previously trusty HTC Titan, a whole bunch of things didn't work and the build was 0.7 or something.. Calls and texts worked fine, nothing else.. but good to get a glimpse of something great in the works and the OS taking shape. I got to build 0.9 and then decided I'd leave it... I've largely ignored Android until recently after trying some ported versions to the HTC Touch Pro2. This was enough to convince me it's time to get a proper Android Handset, plus Windows Phone7 didnt convince me to stick around with them anymore.

I must say, I had the telecom version for 24hrs and spent 4 of those hours de-branding it. If you see one take a look at the browser, its renamed to their stupid "Y!X World" with the logo too.

In the end i got the vodafone version, runs like a charm with Android 2.2.

This gets quite a bit of mention on the Doc thread.  When I was catching up on my reading last night it appeared that it might have something to do with the LOST.dir.  You can read the post here.  And then I see when doing a search in the thread this morning the LOST.dir gets another mention, but I've not read that particular post yet.

A good number of people have ditched Gallery3D and started using JustPictures.  It's a free app on the market.  I've put it on my phone too.  Does almost everything Gallery3D does, but it wont allow me to change a dock icon which is why I put Gallery3D back on my phone.

I haven't looked to see if I have duplicate pictures if that's obvious anywhere other than looking in the gallery.  If it's obvious from looking in the gallery then I don't suffer from the problem.  Some also changed to use Gallery3D that was part of an earlier ROM.  Here's the post which contains a Gallery3D that appears to be working fine - though I think this time it was mentioned in response to the sensor working overtime because it showed the Gallery on/working full-time.

You can use CWM to apply the zip file, or Root Explorer to move the *.apk into the /system/app folder to install.

lokhor: I really wish my battery would last from 7am - 11pm

Interesting... I get 24 hours most of the time. I wonder what's different in our usage patterns, FW and such?

Actually this could be a thread of its own with tips, recommendations and comparisons.

I have 3G turned off until I want it for email, or I have to go on the web and there's no wifi.
I have wifi turned off unless I need it, except at home when it's on all the time.
I only have GPS turned on when it's required.
I use the FM radio or the music player on my commute (half an hour each way). On weekends, prolly 3x that amount each day.
If I use the GPS, I have the SGS plugged in to the car charger.
I have a few TSRs for notifications and so on running continuously.

Having said that, I'm going to spring for an additional battery which I'll keep charged and handy for the extraordinary battery use scenarios.

My ROM is in my sig in case that's of interest.

My SGS outlasts my wife's iPhone 3Gs in battery life every day. It's her loudest gripe about the iPhone.

If you start a specific battery thread, I'll contribute. :)

Cheers,
R2D2

Galaxy S has gone to its new owner. HTC Sensation has gone to its new
owner. Galaxy S3 has gone to its new owner. Now using Galaxy Note 3. Skipping Note 4 I think...
