It's been reported here that:

As of Thursday morning CET, there have been over a hundred reports of visible camera module gaps on the back of the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra, and some early adopters even spotted dust particles and codnensation droplets appearing on the wrong side of the smartphone’s rear glass panel covering its triple-camera setup.

Both issues could point to wrongly assembled devices, but Samsung has yet to admit to any widespread issues with the first Galaxy Note 20 Ultra batch. In a statement provided to local media in South Korea, a company official said minor water condensation effects, by themselves, aren’t evidence of a manufacturing defect and shouldn’t impact functionality. With that said, Samsung is currently reviewing the reports, but if you aren’t keen on waiting, you can always have a chat with one of its customer reps to figure out if you’re eligible for a proactive warranty replacement.

I'm interested to know whether these defects are present in the models sold in NZ and whether it may pay to wait before buying because of this?

Also, in this report it talks about a "green tint" issue with the display. It mentions that the smartphone’s owners said that the green tint appears when the display’s refresh rate is set at 120Hz, and the brightness goes below 30%.

Has anyone experienced this problem so far? Is it serious enough to delay buying the unit, or is it likely to be fixed with a software update?

Thanks for your advice on these possible problems.

I've see none of these problems and I work in probably the dustiest environment unless one of you guy's refines flour for a living. I even did a decent day in the rain with it poking out of my pocket a bit and haven't noticed a problem yet.

Thanks for your advice. Samsung has acknowledged the Galaxy Notre 20 ultra flaws raised by some owners:

https://www.techradar.com/uk/news/samsung-acknowledges-galaxy-note-20-ultra-flaws-raised-by-some-owners

We reached out to Samsung for its view on the issue, and it returned us a comment which we have published in full below:

"Samsung is committed to ensuring consumer's satisfaction and optimal experience on Galaxy devices. Recently, there have been a limited number of reports of fog build-up inside the cameras of Galaxy Note 20 Ultra.

"As with reading glasses and other glass objects, condensation can occur in water-resistant smartphones when they are exposed to a sudden temperature change."......

Upon close inspection of his phone, he noted that Samsung's attempt to make all three rear camera cutouts symmetrical has meant the top two cameras just don't fit in their housing.

I'm not sure whether this is a major issue or not or whether NZ retailers should be made aware of it?

I suppose most buyers wouldn't worry about this and just ask for a replacement phone if camera or green screen problems arise. I suppose early adopters of most electronic products are aware that there may be some problems that may need to be addressed later.

I bit the bullet and brought the Mystic Bronze
Note 20 Ultra from PB Tech Yesterday with the otterbox symmetry clear case to show off the beauty.
It lessens the Camera Bump. I have placed an order on Aliexpress for a Camera lens cover..
Happy to see I have a usb-c headset
Unhappy that there was no Sim removal tool included
For a premium phone.. the box presentation is very very basic!!
Happy to have image stability for my moonshot photo of the moon this morning... :)

Did you check the inside of the box lid? Samsung puts documentation and the SIM injection tool there. You might even find a case (I don't recall if Samsung NZ still does that).

I have to say it's a nice phone.  120hz is great and I makes the whole thing feel lightning fast.  No 120hz and 1440p is a bummer but I can't actually tell the difference and netflix is limited to 1080p on that phone.

The only real disappointment (and I knew this before buying) is the battery life.  If you turn on all the AI (sleeping apps, adaptive battery etc then the standby life is ok but not as good as my note 9.  Once you start using it it seems to drain quite fast which I assume partially the screen but mostly the crap cpu.

I'll have to agree, the standby is lacking compared to my past iPhones at least but that has always been a thing with Android, I'm averging 5 hours of screen on time and making it home with a gas still in the tank.

I always get worse SOT than other people (typically 3 hours with note 20).  I think thats down to me owning a smart watch, running a system level add blocker (Disconnect Pro) and listening to lots of music with my phone.

You will also find that Iphones tend to report longer % after charging them.  Iphones take a while to go from 100% - 80% but start dropping faster after that.  Androids tend to be more "even" with their %

I have a Bixby routine set up that automatically drops the power consumption right back when I go to bed if I forget to put it on to charge.  Times I've done this it might be 50% remaining when I go to bed, and it's pretty darn close to 50% remaining when I wake up.  There's TONS you can do to these devices to tweak power consumption to your liking.

Anyone else having problems with phone calls? Lose connection for like 10 seconds in the middle of a call. Never had that before.

I've just checked and my bottom lens as a spell piece of dust behind it.

Sad that Netflix is reduced to 1080 max
Has anyone noticed a difference with the smoothness playing movies
Compared to a normal 60hz phone every 1080p and 4k?
Also...
I foud the sim removal and the instructions manual.. under the top box.. so deceiving :p sadly no case 😔

Netflix doesn't support 1440p as a resolution it only ever displays at 1080P unless the device is 4K natively so I'd hardly call that "sad"... it's normal.
The display is dynamic and changes the refresh rate based on content so it will only play at 24/30/60hz for video content.
The only time this isn't the case is when playing back 120FPS Full HD video recorded in Pro Video.

RE the case who cares, if you're investing that much money into a high end device you most likely will purchase a case for it.
Even the cheapest Spigen case is better than the included one's with older devices.

Hmm I've never noticed that and I was for the longest time swapping out between Android and iPhone and always thought that iOS was better at battery optimization especially standby.

In saying that I never run my Android phones using the stock launcher I always skin with Nova and run my own custom widgets through Zooper (rip) and now Kustom and with the N20U I have basically rehashed the whole homescreen, setup gestures to mimic iOS gestures so it looks custom just like Android allows but feels like an iPhone with the gestures, best of both worlds.

I think battery performance does take a hit using Kustom but how much of a difference, I'm not sure.

Here's my current homescreen on the N20U
