Wade: The upcoming M8 creates an interesting dilemma, I had gotten into the habit of changing my phone fairly regularly but I find myself not necessarily wanting to part with the One. The camera whilst not revolutionary is a lot better than most give it credit, the snapdragon 600 never seems to be lacking oomph, the screen never seems too big or small. the body has survived well with no scratches or dings despite never having lived in a case.
It still feels and acts like a premium handset, a newer better version should be even better but why fix what ain't broke, therein lies the dilemma...

Hi Wade: Your comment interested me. Unlike you (and most GZers, I'm betting) I don't change my handset regularly. In fact, I'm currently using a three year old HTC Sensation and have only been looking to upgrade in the last few weeks. If I had to buy a new phone today it would still be the One, even though it's about to celebrate it's first birthday, particularly as it's available from Telecom for only $349 on my current mobile plan (and I'm expecting the "One2" to be around that $1000 mark, if not 5-10% more).
So I'm keen to know what other people think - especially those who have owned the One for while: Would you still buy One at the current reduced pricing, or hold out another couple of months for the M8, or to get a look at the Galaxy S5?
Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.
merve0o0: Has anyone got the 4.4 update yet?

Not yet (Telecom unrooted). But I'm not in a hurry to get it either. The main reason is I like the App Ops feature that the current firmware has to control permissions. As I understand it the move to 4.4 will remove that. I don't use the Sense launcher, preferring either Apex or Action launchers, so that means I'm happy with my One 'as is' at the moment.

Wade: If I had to replace it the only thing I would change is colour, I prefer the look of the black model
I have done the full GPe conversion also which sways my vote, pure Google just compliments the ones style imho, nothing short of a nexus 6 or M8 GPe is going to excite me more!
merve0o0: Im only wanting the update to see if the tap and pay thing works like i hope it will then i can leave my card in the car.
afe66: I too find the One to be a very nice bit of kit. So much so that I think I'll pass on upgrading it this year.
For me I want to wait and see what happens with the roll out of 700MHz frequncy.

Have the One too, I haven't played with a Snapdragon 800 phone and find the One fast enough for sure - although it does get super hot sometimes, the new M8 looks garbage compared to my current One so I wouldn't upgrade to that!
