lokhor: I think we need to wait for the kernel source for 2.2.1 to be released before we see a good speedmod kernel for this rom.

Yes, flashing speedmod causes Wifi to kill itself.

Supercurio has apparently created a Voodoo kernel that uses the JPU kernel, maybe you could try that.

One important caveat for early adopters of 2.2.1 - it seems to disable many current methods of gaining root access, so make sure you can actually do root-level backups etc first

apparently superoneclick root works and there is a new z4root that supports it already. imo bring on the custom roms.

Do you guys reckon this will be made available publicly, ie through Kies, for everyone?

Maybe eventually, probably not for a while though as this is the first release.

I'm reading the thread on XDA and everyone seems to be over the moon. It's a good thing that the lag is completely gone for people on it. Hopefully this means Samsung are finally attending to this model's shortcomings. :>

Yeah the Quadrant scores showed a vast improvement in IO so maybe they have fixed the major RFS issues. I will probably flash in a week or so once some deodexed and zipaligned roms come out. Ideally a gingerbread theme would be pretty sweet :D

I don't think I'll ever update using Kies again - it's the most useless piece of software.

Interesting thing is that it still seems to be using RFS, which everyone blamed the lag on, and said was a fundamentally flawed filesystem. . . . I guess we won't really know until people have run it for a while, but it seems odd.

Perhaps there were other inefficiencies in the kernel that have been removed?

I reckon Samsung just paid someone to create a Voodoo or alike program and attached it to that 2.2.1 update. :P

I think they stole the kernel memory configs from XDA as it has 339mb of ram too.

Im flashing right now :) been a while since i went to froyo (JPK) and been sitting on it since. This seems to have enough hype around it to warrant it (and i cant really be bothered doing much at work for the rest of the day!)

Will post progress...

Interesting. It has the same kernel as the VNZ stock kernel recently released for NZ. 2.6.32.9

Wonder what that wil mean for us? 2.2.1 a natural fit, maybe? We can dream. Laughing

As of now, I'm interested in finding a root solution for 2.2 stock and a way to get the 2e 3B restore back. Not as easy as for 2.1 it seems. Time to do some serious googling, I think.

Cheers,
R2D2

SuperOneClick can root 2.2 stock. I think you have to flash an update.zip to get 2e recovery. do you not have 3 button restore anymore?
