I really see no point to upgrade now. And the 6P is too big, too expensive and also lacks things I have today like Qi charging.

But I am not sure where else to look. I will not buy another bloated junkware filled Samsung. Maybe the new Motorola's.

Well that's disappointing...

.. Might seriously look at an Iphone now. My HTC M7 is tracking along nicely however.

Better camera, faster processor, bigger screen, finger print sensor, USB Type 'C' etc and probably at a similar price point to the original, its an evolution not a revolution but still pretty good value over all, can't blame Google for the NZD<=>USD

The fact that the original Nexus 5 can still be deemed as an up to date handset is part of the Nexus charm, don't fix whats not broke, in two years time the 5P is again going to still be a up to date phone, same wont be able to be said for HTC's/Samsung's/[insert common brand here] equivalent models

Saw something the other day indicating no Marshmellow for M7 which sucks, unless the GPe channel gets some unannounced 6.0 love then I guess that is the end of the road :(

Piss all storage, removal of features, will most likely still be an inadequate camera, average screen.

I really don't see the charm

I was pretty happy with my N5 until I dropped it. Battery life was the main problem, so if improved with the 5X, I may reconsider. I really like the 6P, but being taller than current N6 may be the killer for me. Also pricing with the current exchange rates may push it outside my preferred spend.

It's pity the Moto X Play is lacking a fingerprint scanner - it it did, it would probably trump the upcoming Nexus range for me - but I really want the scanner in my next phone for the quick unlock access, plus future potential for Google Pay (or similar).

Something i've seen raised several times is the fact The 2013 Nexus 5 2 year old device is even being compared to the 2015 one is both impressive and disappointing. It goes to show how good the nexus 5 was. One of the first devices with a snapdragon 800, 2gb ram, in the first generation of 1080p displays, wireless AC, wireless charging, NFC, acceptable 8MP camera with OIS etc.

All of those things are what helped keep it relevant 2 years later and right up until the start of this year i still saw this device being recommended and sold. And then the disappointment is we have a new device about to be launched that is little enough of an upgrade from it that it can even be compared to the older model.

This would have been like launching the 2013 N5 with a Snapdragon 600 (or lower), 8MP camera with no OIS and less than 2gb of ram. It's not going to age anywhere near as well.

I still haven't decided if i'll buy one, but i can't say that i'm not disappointed with it.

I was also going to get the 5x but have been seeing the specs leak online for the last week was a bit disappointed. After the amazon leak and the size difference between the 5x, 6p etc I went and got a nexus 6 which currently is cheaper than the nexus 5x will be.

Currently only $799 for 32gig and 839 for 64gig (from store.google.com)

Got mine from PBtech for $750

Sure it's a big phone but it's one of the better nexus phones out now/soon.

I would agree based on history but don't forget we have access to google playstore this time around so fingers crossed. IIRC LG NZ had a hand in the supply chain getting the Nexus 5 into NZ which added an additional markup compared to buying direct from Google

For that price you can get far superior phones. Bit of modding here and there and you can remove the skin and bloatware you don't want and have a nexus like experience on far far superior hardware for the same or cheaper price.

Yes when it gets to the store :P Don't even think Canada or AU is getting it when the US/UK does.
$375US = $600NZ at the moment then + GST + Shipping + supply chain costs/importing from Singapore (flatmate ordered a N6 from the store and was sent from Singapore) I will say it will hit the $749/$799

You can, but the nexus range is still fastest at getting firmware out and devs releasing new rom's as they don't need to worry about drivers from OEM's etc.
Plus so easy to unlock/root and not have to worry about tripping off some DRM protection etc, both sony/samsung can be evil with that. Example is with sony, if you unlock the bootloader it deletes your DRM keys and the camera, sound and display are affected. Easy thing to do when you don't know how to back them up etc.

There is no reason why NZ playstore pricing should be worlds apart from US playstore pricing, Googles cost will be the same if not more, I bet it is cheaper to move stock from China ot Singapore than it is to move stock from China to the US
