After much debate I went for the G6 to replace a Nexus 5X. Have had it for a couple of weeks now and very happy with it. Price was really good compared to S8, U11, etc (and came with a pretty nice free flip case and tempered glass screen protector)

It's probably a little unfair comparing with the much lower priced 5X, but it's what I had before, so my thoughts follow:

Pros:

* water-resistant is great for me - have had it splashed multiple times at pools with kids and it's fine. I also don't worry about it getting water, rain or sweat on it while running, at gym, in kitchen, etc.

* Battery life is way better than the Nexus 5X, and charge time seems just as good.

* It never has any issues automatically connecting to the (admittedly cheap no name) bluetooth dongle in my car, while the nexus would occasionally fail to connect.

* Performance is just buttery smooth (even with the "older" processor compared to current flagships)

* Has a really nice solid premium feel to it, and IMO looks great.

Cons:

* Microphone(s) don't seem as good at picking up up when I say "OK google" to activate google assistant - this really seemed great on the Nexus, not so much on the G6.

* Have to wait a bit for Oreo...

Undecided:

* I think I still like stock Android... but I'm quite appreciating some features of LG UI.

Quick Charge 3.0 support too, so unlike the Nexus 5x I can easily replace the adapter.

One thing to note though, that (quote from PB Tech) "in box TA supports Qualcomm® Quick Charge 2.0 only". Not a big issue in the grand scheme of things though.

Got the phone yesterday from PB; as it was advertised as open box, it was no surprise that the official LG seals on the box had been broken but they had been replaced with additional seals that I had to break in order to get into the box.

Any protective film from the phone had been removed, but there was a screen protector on the phone - not sure if this was factory applied or PB Tech applied
Inside the box, everything was still sealed. Came with the original UK USB charger (LG Fast Charge), as well as a UK/USA to New Zealand power adaptor as well as a Samsang Quick Charge USB adaptor
(none of these will be used, as I will be charging via an Anker PowerPower and have my Nexus 5X USB-C wall adaptor as well)

Received two updates out of the box - June Security Updates and then August Security updates for the SEA (South East Asia) region - need to do some digging if there is an Australia/New Zealand region

Spend a considerable about of time customising the phone in order to get it how I liked - ended up using the Google Now launcher rather than both the Home and Home + App Drawer launchers provided by LG (due to personal taste), though this has left an issue with the back/home/app switcher button background not being transparent. Disabled a few LG apps, but couldn't get rid of them all and thankfully the LG Switch app stopped asking me if I wanted to use it to transfer things from one phone to another.

Lots of playing and setting up to complete .. still waiting for several parcels with screen protectors/cases to arrive (slow couriers are really annoying)

Mine is an Au model and came with a case, screen protector already on, and a couple of spares. Same updates as yours. Obviously the power plug was the standard NZ/AU IEC model.

What do you think of the launcher? I've started avoiding them a few years ago after a spate of crashes caused by app compatibility issues.

What do you think of the launcher? I've started avoiding them a few years ago after a spate of crashes caused by app compatibility issues.

I run Action Launcher on my S7, previously I used Google Now. Action Launcher is great - stable as, and I haven't had any compatibility issues at all.

Basically, I'm running the Pixel launcher, and it has some really useful features for app shortcuts and badges. Is well supported by its Aussie developer.

I believe I have the phone set up now the way I want it; and only Pokemon Go is causing issues (which is expected, based on past experiences)

However I have noticed the occasional issue when coming back into the work WiFi - it won't reconnect until I turn off WiFi and turn it on again..
Maybe a "5G" thing - I blame work :-)

No issues with Pokemon Go on my OnePlus 3. Should have gone for the OP5.;) On a serious note, what issues exactly are you facing?

If anyone is looking to get the G6 I see that noel leeming has them for $799 now, which means that if warehouse stationery still has them in stock you can get them to beat it by 5% for $760. And if it's the same bundle I got it comes with a really nice case and good tempered glass screen protector for free.

Typical PoGo issues - unlike the Huawei P10 Lite, there is no setting to keep mobile data on when the phone screen is locked.
As a result, when I lock the screen, the PoGo Plus device disconnects because there is no mobile data connection
PoGo app refuses to comply with any setting that turns off Android Doze.

Having the screen on all the time to get around the above, causes significant battery drain, that even my Anker battery pack can't supply enough power while screen is on

Wow, that's actually new one for me - been playing PoGo since beta day 1 and never had or even heard of this issue. Your data or Bluetooth should *not* disconnect when you turn your screen off - if your phone is doing that the there's something seriously wrong. Maybe LG has implemented some sort of aggressive Doze? I'd suggest turning off battery optimisation for PoGo and see if it makes any difference - goto your phone's Settings - Battery - Menu (three dots) - Battery Optimisation - Pokémon Go - Don't optimize. I'd also check your Data Saver settings, make sure you haven't enabled it, also ensure that background sync is enabled.

Yes, I use it with the Go+ accessory. Yes, there were disconnection issues since 0.59.1 but I never heard of it occurring when the screen is turned off. On my OnePlus 3 and Nexus 6P the Go+ remains connected for the entire duration of the hour, unless I'm multitasking between very heavy apps. The issues on your 5X though could be RAM related - 2GB just isn't enough for PoGo. But you shouldn't have this issue with the G6. Only other thing I could think of is maybe LG is doing some aggressive memory management by killing off background apps. If you're comfortable with custom ROMs you could try switching to LineageOS on your G6 and see if it makes any difference.

I've been looking around and it does seem that the Plus does not play well with the G6;

There are several workarounds (involving Bluetooth devices or streaming music at the same time to keep the data connection alive), but I can live with not locking the screen for a fraction less battery time (chargers in the car/work assist). Next week overseas, I think I'll be using the Huawei as a hotspot and have the LG connected to it so I can lock the screen and still play will being a tourist (with tourist coming first over any PoGo)

One word of caution: Watch out for the rear camera glass, as it shatters VERY easily compared to the rest of the device.

:( What happened? I've seen scratch\bend\destruction tests where they found the same thing, so it's good to know what to watch out for.
