I've been toying with the idea of getting a replacement phone after cracking the screen on my Huawei P10 Lite, and the LG G6 is looking pretty good after reading some reviews and playing with a demo unit at Noel Leeming.

The current special of $888 is still rather steep, but better than $1199; if time allowed it I would get a parallel imported one for slightly cheaper but as I am heading overseas next week, this is not an option.

Anyone got one?
Anything negative about it?

I can't find the answer online, but how customizable is the LG UX6 interface to make it as "stock" as possible?

Specs look great. Wife has the G4, I have the G5, both have been great phones. I presume the G6 only builds on that.

Look on PriceSpy if you are happy buying from parallel importers - E-Info sell it for $680

Edit - sorry just read your comments that you can't wait for parallel importers...

My only cheaper option from a store that has in stock, is PB Tech

Sadly they only have Black as an open box version for $770(ish), while White is in stock .. but who wants white

If security is an issue (as it should be) I would consider the lack NZ support for android updates to LG phones. The last security update to my NZ bought LG G4 was on 1/1/2016, even though LG corporate issue regular updates. Plenty of discussion on the LG G4 thread

Whether or not this will improve with current generation LGs, who knows.

Nokia 6110, 6210, 6234, Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1, Huawei Ideos X5 (Windows Mobile), Samsung Galaxy SIII, LG G4, OnePlus 5, iPhone Xs Max (briefly), S21 Ultra. And I thought I hadn't had many phones - but the first one around 1997.

I've taken the gamble and ordered the open box Black 64GB Dual SIM version from PB Tech.
Sadly they added on postage and credit card fees making it $93 cheaper than going to Noel Leeming..

I found something online that the G6 will get Android 8 soon ..., how soon I am not sure though

Maybe by the end of the year I will have more details and cost of the "Pixel 2" and can decide what I am doing regarding phones at that point

Is that NZ G4s or international? We get such a raw deal for updates over here, from Sony and Samsung IME. I've not had an LG, but the G6(+) is tempting.

Have you considered the OnePlus 5 instead? It's a lot cheaper than the G6 and performance wise it's much better.

Pros:
- Octa-core Snapdragon 835 (vs Quad-core 821)
- 6GB RAM (vs 4GB)
- Gorilla Glass 5 (vs GG3)
- AMOLED display (vs LCD)
- Better global LTE support (8 additional LTE bands)
- Bluetooth 5.0 (vs 4.2)
- Choice of physical (capacitive) or onscreen keys
- Near-stock Android with no bloatware
- Better battery life (due to stock Android + more efficient SoC)
- Root friendly (easy to root, doesn't void warranty, huge developer community)

Cons:
- 1080p display (vs the G6's 1440p)
- No microSD slot
- No official IP68 rating (although it is waterproof)

Personally, I'm on a OnePlus 3 but also waiting to see what the Pixel 2 brings to the table. If the Pixel 2 disappoints like the Pixel 1 did, I'll go for the OnePlus 5 instead.

Edit: Whoops. Didn't see that you already bought the G6. :/

Yep, pays to read all before commenting ;-)

The One Plus range was not considered because I do not like phones with buttons on the front - be it a physical button, a fingerprint sensor or a combo
That choice rules out a bunch of phones for me - otherwise I would love a Moto [something] for its near stock Android experience

Not to mention that the One Plus 5 sports bezels the size of Texas versus the minimal bezels of the G6.

It's the NZ/Oz H815T version. The last update the phone got was only 9 months after it's official release.

Now there are plenty of reports of it going to Nougat v7. That's the problem. What is happening in other parts of the world bears no relation to NZ. It's up to NZ/Oz arm of the manufacturer, and/or the local carriers to ensure the updates are pushed to our phones. It seems that often they are not.

Ok, I'll keep this in mind in case I go down this path. I've had mixed experience with various manufacturers over the years.

I've just replaced my Nexus 5x with an LG G6 (which doesn't suffer from the boot loop issue) from PB. Very happy with the phone, but a few minor complaints about the UI - e.g. to remove icons from the screen, you need to go into the menu and select them in the hide from homescreen list.

Ive got an Lg G6 up for sale if your keen, purchased from e-info about a month ago, I had installed lawn chair launcher which makes it look fairly stock.

I use Action Launcher on my Galaxy S7 - it has a great stock-looking Pixel UI.
