I bought my M8 today.
I think it was sold to me at as a Vodafone one (Noel Leeming).
I am with 2D.
After some initial setup and a software update (that came up instantly after turning it on) it's all OK with one detail - I do not see LTE in the list of network types.
Anyone else?

2degrees has no LTE network. So it's natural you won't see one.

I get that I wouldn't see the actual network.
The issue is I don't even see the option for that network.
My original One M7 has the option.

Also, anyone also only has AUS keyboard option and no NZ or GB?

I remember when I was picking up the M8, there were 2 versions they had in stock. One was 2Degree which has HTC one M8, the Vodafone version had HTC M8x. I got the Vodafone version - and that was on the box. What's the difference? Couldn't find much online...

I also bought a 2Degrees version but it is also the M8x on the box. I think M8x is the Asian version which is what all NZ stock are.

I don't believe OTA updates will work if you have a custom recovery.

Not necessarily, But there is a good chance OTA will not work any more, but there are other ways to restore software. Maybe you should install a custom recovery and create a backup of your current stock rom

Not necessarily, But there is a good chance OTA will not work any more, but there are other ways to restore software. Maybe you should install a custom recovery and create a backup of your current stock rom

I was under the impression that a custom recovery was required to flash root access, but I have been wrong plenty of times before! Maybe via adb but not something I have tried. Even if custom is the case, you can then restore the stock recovery after gaining root. The trouble with that is the next time you get an OTA update you are likely to lose root (unless something like OTA Rootkeeper is available for the M8).

Im not sure about HTC but i know with other devces like samsung there are root methods which can keep the stock recovery

All the guides I could fnd when rooting my M7 followed the;

Bootloader unlock at HTCDEV.COM (caution completely wipes phone),
Install custom recovery using a PC with fastboot,
Flash a superuser zip to get root.

After that you could flash a stock recovery back, or as I did, delve into the world of custom roms.

The M7 is my fifth HTC phone and the only handset I didn't eventually rom up was my One X. I assume apart from having a removable SD card the M8 would be similar.

As far as I have seen in the past if you have a stock recovery and stock (rooted) rom then it should accept the update. Experience (admittedly on an ASUS tablet) was that the update can remove root, but that it can be protected if you are aware of it.

The method sounds brilliantly simple! What's the catch.......

Does the handset need to be S-Off to achieve it?

And never mind, just read this on Gigaom: "Towelroot has been tested with both AT&T and Verizon variants of the Samsung Galaxy S5, as well as the Galaxy S4 Active and the Nexus 5. Unfortunately, devices from Motorola and HTC won’t work with Towelroot, because their /system folders are write-protected."
