I think I might have killed my SGS using Kies... (via Win7 in Virtualbox in Ubuntu)...

I guess I should have stuck using Odin, which never had any problems.

Spoke too soon... managed to get Kies to do a recovery and all is working..... on JPX now. Excellent!

If Samsung keep up with the updates, there is no need for me to mod this phone. The speed is a nice improvement over JPM.

Yes, thats right VF and XT fans, while you wait for your favourite telecomunications company to pull their finger out and give you 2.2, across the other side of the world, Santa is giving all the presents to the other kids.

I haven't caught up on the XDA thread, but I did join Joel's (Darky) Facebook page. Seems he's going to concentrate on getting Gingerbread on the JPU rather than making a rom for JPX. Doc's JPX is out.

Brendan: has anyone ever had a funny sms message center missing problem with these rom's? e.g. the message center number just disappears off the SIM for no apparent reason? You cant then send sms messages. I thought I recall some others having that problem earlier...

This is on darky's 5.5, a 2.2.1 jpu based rom.

I flashed Darky's rom (Gingerbread edition) last night. After seeing your post I checked and the Vodafone 021600600 was still in my message settings.

R2D2 had that problem. I can't remember what ROM he's running, I think stock JPU.

Battery update: Darky's Gingerbread edition. In a little over 6 hours (yes folks, that's all the sleep I got with blimmen 30deg indoor temps) battery drained around 20%. Better than Doc's JPU but not nearly as good as I got with Doc's v9 ROM.

Yep, I left Wifi on.

Anyone on JPX report the browser performance? It's now GPU accelerated so should be much smoother than the previous browser incarnations. It's not too bad now, however would be great to hear some feedback.

Edit: Just seen caldazar has. Let us know your thoughts on JPX overall.

On another note, supercurio has uploaded some videos of his early ports of Gingerbread. None of this theme stuff, let's get to the real deal!

I've not used the browser a lot on JPX but my initial testing is that it's pretty good. It loads the Geekzone website (full web version) so quickly. There is the odd checkerboard effect when scrolling zoomed in on heavy sites... e.g. www.stuff.co.nz (full web version).

I'm coming from stock JPM, so not sure how it compares to modded rom's.

hahaha... was thinking the same.

At this stage I'm happy with JP3. I have Skype! heh.

In other somewhat related news, Heimdall creator Ben has told me to do more reading before using his software. heh.. I kinda thought that me asking questions about the software before I try using it is the way of learning. So I'm going to read more about it and pester you guys, if you don't mind of course. :P

Roms built on JPX sound a lot more appealing. The source code for it will be released by Samsung. The same can't be said of JPU because it was never meant for public consumption.

OK, so after a lot of reading I find there is no point updated to JPX if you're on JPU.

Only differences I can discern so far:

Kies connection works with JPX (don't care, don't need Kies for anything)
There is a new wallpaper
There is a new bug where apps are ordered by download date, not alpha

I think it was nofam that sent the files to Bloodrider. I guess he's not heard from him whether he's created the CSC file for VFN.

Did you check out this method? However that wont help you until you get the file from Bloodrider. At least I can give mine a shot and see if the method works.

And yeah, it's known that there's no CSC for the ROM. Doc states it in the thread and on his first page and provides a couple of options, but again, not sure any will work without the file you need.

Also, I use Handcent too, and I also found there's no where for the 21600600 setting, so I've kept the stock Message app for that reason only. I'm not sure where the number saves.

I'm giving away my phone, so I want to revert to a stock rom doesn't need to be VF-NZ specific, but should be 900G modem. Currently I'm in the doc rom with the corrupt kernal, I thought I would flash the kernal fix and then flash stock rom. Has anyone already done some research into this and which stock rom I should go for. The reason to do this is so that future updates can be done for my friend using kies rather than having to use xda to find new roms and use odin.
