jeffnz:always do full wipe/reset and dalvik, ok got me on the permissions, know how to get to them but not sure what you mean by changing them, to what?

Just go into cwm recovery. Then select advanced and fix permissions. It's an automatic process, no real thinking involved. :)

cool no real thinking suits me I'm good at that, actually never knew that when flashing what does it actually do?

To be quite honest, I'm not 100% sure. ;)
My limited understanding was that it makes a scan through the app permissions and ensures they're correct, but I could be wrong there. I've used it at least twice to fix fc's on the leaked beta ICS roms and each time it worked perfectly. When fault finding it soon became another of tools to fix bugs: Don't report a bug until you've cleared the cache/dalvik cache, fixed permissions, made a factory reset/wipe or reflashed the rom... Needless to say I got very good at wiping and reinstalling everything.

I don't know if you'll use it but call recording works well on the new rom. Don't use the app in the drawer (I got rid of it), use the one from the kitchen instead - it works perfectly. I use it to record interviews with my tutors (with permission). I'm studying extramurally so it's a very handy capability to have.

Kelem: Cheers Will check it out, Any modems that are the go with XT / Telstra

Sorry can someone remind me how to install a 7z file please.

1. Here's a link to my Box account with the three i9100T modems. Two are cwm flashable, one requires odin.
2. 7z files are simply another method of file compression. Download the program here, then extract and install your file.

Thankss Lee, yes saw you comment on XDA and can see some benefits in it.
Its funny how i got totally used to Darkyrom and its lack of glitzy stuff so enjoying time out with all the themes and extra's other roms give.

I'm sort getting used to flashing more often now and if you follow the steps its not an issue. Be interesting to see the progress the devs make over the next few months it will certainly make for some very nice ICS roms and features

I only use it maybe once every month or so, but I cover a lot of info in interviews so it's nice to have as a back-up (I do take notes). I tend to get a little defensive of the call recording as some people are quite aggressively against it. They don't seem to see a positive side to it and immediately assume you're some kind of criminal deviant.

DarkyRom has been my main rom since mid last year, but I try others regularly. In saying that I've been enjoying the Omega roms quite a bit so haven't spent much time on DarkyRom lately. More or less similar features, but I like to be able to run different themes from time to time. Unfortunately themers tend to get chummy with the devs and build rom specific versions which is annoying. It'd be nice to pick a rom and then apply any theme... DarkyRom is also a stable team, unlike so many others. Very few of the original S2 devs are still working on S2 roms.

Definitely looking forward to the future of ics roms.

I am considering the 4.65" HD LTE Version of this phone, I am wondering how many of the custom roms will be compatible. It has a 1.5Ghz Processor. The LTE won't work here I presume (Korean band whatever that means)

Does VF have any intent toward LTE in NZ ?

Johnr said a little while ago that they had plans for lte, but I don't recall there being timeframes mentioned.

You can pretty much guarantee most S2 custom roms won't work. They use totally different architecture. They'll have their own support from users/developers so maybe you'd be better off having a look through XDA to see what's available?
Also, they don't have 2100MHz band radios (2g or 3g). That might cause a few issues with reception.
I'd probably stay away from it.

I agree those bands are important and I'll skip this device. appreciate you taking the time to get that information for me! Never occurred it wouldn't be compatible.

Kelem: So far i have fixed the double messaging with Chomp, fixed the Polaris office problem, managed to work out how to re install apps that wouldn't, ?but moving apps to the sd card has me fcuked.

Why do you want to move apps to the SD card? The internal storage has plenty of space.. On my device, with around 150 apps installed I still have 1GB of space left. (Running stuff from the SD card can be slow and buggy.)

----

Btw folks, I switched over to Omega as well, and IMHO it's way better than other ROMs (particularly Resurrection and Hydrog3n)! No theme issues at all (like the black on black text issue in Resurrection), no force-closes and a very fluid UI - particularly when scrolling. The best part though - Siyah v3.0 works great on it and I can finally enjoy a proper ICS-style CWM recovery. :D Cheers to all the peeps who recommended Omega!

It's funny.. huge fan of remix through to 9.6.. and then ics official came out.. so while waiting for westcrip official ics based remix.. tried stock.. hmm still no 9.8 from westcrip.. then i tried omega black and blue.. haven't looked back and not even tempted to try remix now..  havent tried siyah on omega yet.. consensus is siyah is great on omega it seems??

Is Chomp a SMS app?

I'm still with stock, guess I'm just waiting for a bug fix update or an updated version of Handcent. Will also give Go SMS a try sometime this week.

I've also jumped across to Omega 6.0.  And now I remember that I always found the icons a little flamboyant for my likes.  Will have to wait till I get home to wifi to see if the Kitchen app might offer up some "dulled down" icons.  Nova wouldn't respond after a little while. Hopefully "fix permissions" has dealt to that now.
