Neets: After my 2nd attempt, I got the driver to install meaning I can use Heimdall.

Has anyone been reading up on the OC/UV threads? Seems that doing this (changing the kernel to one that's compatible, then setting the OC/UV via a new app) provides a much better battery experience.

Some of the people on the Doc thread are now including their OC/UV settings in their signature which is handy if you want to start out there and tweak further as need be.

Cheers for that - was wanting to OC my SGS but kept forgetting :P

Now got my SGS overclocked to 1280MHz (Stable) - And using the settings in your sig with SetCPU downclocking it to 100MHz-800MHz when the screen is off (plenty) and 200MHz - 1280MHz with the screen on.

I get a score of 1802 in Quadrant Standard which is not too shabby.

I just spent 5 minutes putting together a few backgrounds for my phone. Kinda went with darker colours as every last little bit of battery life helps!

If anyone is into Star Trek or a Night time skyline, here they are:

They've been correctly sized so what you see in the picture is what will appear on your background (Just need to drag out the little orange crop box when you select it), they are the correct resolution/aspect ratio

If you can manage to look past all the pictures posted in the first post, there's a link to a *.rar file underneath with supposedly 400+ wallpapers. It's a big file. Over 120mb. I decided I didn't need it and cancelled my d/l.

My battery drainage didn't improve. I didn't know what setCPU was, but I see it's another app. There's been people saying setCPU wont/doesn't work and to use the Voltage app. But the Voltage app doesn't have any settings to use specific to the state of the phone i.e. asleep.

How did you get on with your settings overnight?

I'd read some people having random shut downs on their phone after OC/UV.

I've just experienced my first shut down. I'd checked my phone which was charging, it was around 95%. Anyway my phone just made a big vibration sound and I checked it. The battery (you see when the phone is off) was showing 100%. At some point my phone shut down.

Last night I'd charged the phone to 100% and it hadn't shut down. I'm not certain that it's a phone charging thing. Perhaps just some random occurance. I do know that it's never happened until today, and the only thing I've changed in the last day is my kernel to allow me to install the Voltage app to OC/UV my phone.

As I've finished typing, my phone has again reached 100% and the usual notification sound has chirped. The phone is alive! ;-)

My phone randomly shuts down too but its never been oced. Phone just stops responding then the screen goes to sleep as usual but it shuts off instead.

Overnight was all good - I am using the same kernal as you with no crashes / a totally stable phone.
In fact, I was surprised to see my MacBook (which runs Debian) had a kernal panic overnight >.<

Flashed to Doc's V6.2 XXJPY last night using CWM and a zip file on the SD card, all was well until I tried to change the CSC from KOR to XEU to try get some apps to install properly. Now the phone won't talk to the network at all. Tried to change the CSC back to KOR then and there but it wasn't available.

Went back to my original backup (which was running 2.2.1) but it didn't change the modem on the phone (was still using XXJPY - should've been XXJPU). Reflashed XXJPY using Odin and now it's using KOR as its CSC but it still won't talk to the network. :(

Going to try flashing XXJPY again but with a JP2 modem and see if I have any luck.

Will report back!

edit: just noticed I am able to see Vodafone but not Telecom, guessing it's trying to use GSM900 and not WCDMA850 which it should be.

Do you mean you can't make a call, or you can't connect to your data? How did you change the CSC. This might help people to see what can be undone/changed.

I would have thought re-flashing Docs rom would overwrite the CSC. Or you could flash 6.1 which has NO CSC. You probably will have to use the Wipe version which means a factory reset and reinstallation of your apps (via Titanium Backup or equivalent).

edit: flashed XXJPY with JP2 modem just now, booted into 3e recovery and popped up some errors about the internal flash not being formatted correctly and it being unable to mount DBDATA:, tried to format the internal SD card then and there but it errored, tried to reboot the phone and it tried to boot into the OS, then the vibrations of doom began. :(

Might try go back to JPU.

When you go to Available networks, does your network appear in the list? (Wireless & Network | Mobile networks | Network Operators)

Well usually I remove the SIM before I flash using Odin but as I was using CWM to flash the phone I didn't bother, not sure what that might've done.

The SIM is definitely in the phone, it's picking up vodafone NZ as a network, just not Telecom NZ.

Decided I'll try go to JPU again and see if that helps.

edit: flashing JPU now. Fingers crossed.

So have JPU up and running now, going to flash Docs V4.0 (his final based on JPU) before I insert the SIM and see if I get network connectivity.

Ugh, still not working, I'm getting two bars of signal to Vodafone but none to Telecom...

Have to head into work in a couple of hours and we have a cellsite on top of the building so might try then. Guess I'll load everything onto my laptop so I can continue from work, will give me something to do tonight I guess.
