I don't know what I would do as a replacement phone if my 5X died ... Pixel is far too expensive (and has to be imported), in order to play PoGo I need an official Google Android (rather than what some brand use) and I hate Samsung's with a passion.

Yeah, I'd be stuck too. I've been trying to find a 5X for my partner because PoGo runs so poorly on her Vodafone Smart Prime, but it looks like everywhere has stopped selling them.

I guess I should be thankful my N4 is still working; though since I moved to the 5X, PoGo has become such a bloated and resource hungry application that I wonder if the N4 can even handle it.
Only one way to really know!

Ugh so just got my phone back from repair. The repairer (fonefix) stated no fault found - reflashed software. Started using it and boom, another reboot. If only I could type what I think of fonefix right now especially when I stated I have already done a complete firmware reinstall using both Google's recovery and a full block-by-block firmware reinstall using LG's tool.

Edit: LG were extremely helpful. Are investigating as repair agents have clear guidelines with Nexus 5X repairs and are told to offer refunds.

Got my phone back from Warehouse Stationary!

Fonefix report says "Live tested and confirmed the reported fault, caused by the faulty mainboard. Done internal inspection and found no signs of liquid or impact damage. Replaced the mainboard under manufacturer warranty. Tested all functions working within manufacturer specifications."

I hope it lasts longer this time!

While PoGo is resource hungry, turns out its Android 7.1.1 that is RAM intensive.

Used my N4 via tethered internet connection to play PoGo while using the N5X to access other things. PoGo on both devices used around 700MB of RAM, but the N4 running Android 5.1 was only using 200MB to run the operating system and had plenty of free resources. In comparison the N5X between Android and PoGo has generally only a couple of MB of RAM free, which does not allow for other apps to run

My 5X started bootloop error today after a month of freezes and crashes.

Do I just take it into Warehouse Stationary where I bought it  a year+ ago?

Hopefully I still have the receipt somewhere.

Contacted LG NZ ( I think) they said "contact your retailer "

Went into stationary warehouse and they said "Nope. Its out of warranty, sorry"

I'm sure they will change their tune once you start talking Consumer Gaurantees Act and disputes tribunal...

https://www.consumer.org.nz/articles/faulty-mobile-phones

Example from the TDR process which is different to a normal CGA/Disputes Tribunal case (but similar enough to illustrate a point)

In July 2013, we reported on a TDR decision that found Vodafone liable for repairs to a 30-month-old iPhone. The company had initially denied responsibility, stating the mobile was “out of warranty”. But the TDR adjudicator said the phone wasn’t of acceptable quality and told the company to pay up

Wasn't the 5x under warranty from LG for 2 years (instead of the usual one)? Pretty sure it says that in mine.

Also general 5X related, end of life/support dates from Google:

- End of updates to new Android versions: September 2017

- End of security updates: September 2018

https://www.theregister.co.uk/2017/05/01/google_eol_for_nexus_phones/

Basically time to start thinking about a new phone anyway...

The Nexus 5X has a 24 month manufacturer warranty so they sould have taken it back for repair. Same thing happened to mine and warehouse stationary sent it for repair and I got it back after a week all fixed.

Anyone ever taken a N5X back to Android 6 after it has been using Android 7?

If so, how easy is the process? I want to test if an issue I am having with a Bluetooth device is due to Android 7

Looks like my phone is now dead; as mentioned earlier I play Pokemon Go and after updates made the game unplayable via the Nexus 5X, I have been using the Nexus 5X as a hotspot while playing on another phone (borrowed Samsung J5 Prime). Today while walking to work, PoGo started to complain of no internet access. My Nexus 5X was off and so far no amount of pressing the power button has seen any activity and it does not seem to be recognising my Anker charger.

Do I contact LG directly (here in New Zealand) or do I have to suffer through the process of going through Noel Leeming
Purchased 6th October 2016

Off topic question, how was relative performance on the j5 prime?

There has been a few times I've wished I didn't "upgrade" from a OnePlus One given the performance of this phone when multi tasking.

I'd go to NL directly. I've had a couple of warranty repairs through NL, laptop and a mobile, and both had good outcome.
