I contacted LG via online chat who directed me to FoneFix who directed me to Noel Leeming

Noel Leeming didn't want to know about me so I got a copy of my receipt and called up FoneFix again to advise how to send the phone in for warranty repair

Included a brief description of the fault and a email address for them to contact me if more info was needed

Fingers crossed I get a repaired device soon...

You should go back to Noel Leeming. You bought it from them, it's under warranty and you have the receipt - it's Noel Leeming's problem.

^ I often send phones back to be repaired under warranty for work, so adding my own to a courier bag was no drama

I keep on checking my email for a status update, but seeing as the phone was only delivered this morning I know I am being a tad impatient :-)

Was using my 5X this morning. All of a sudden the screen went black.

Didn't concern me until I realised it wasn't rebooting.

Oh dear...

So after trying the options from the bootloader, gave up.

I found the receipt, went in to Warehouse Stationary, and told them the story.

The manager knew all about it, and so now its in their hands for repairs. (I tried to convince him to refund, but that didn't happen)

He was nice enough to give me a loan phone in the meantime though. So can't complain.

...and EMUI 5 on the P10 Lite has fewer "improvements" than EMUI 4.1 on my P9 Lite, I don't understand why manufacturers do it. The current generation of Moto phones gets an OS pretty close to stock Android but even that seems to be going away, Lenovo are closing down their Zuk line of phones but moving the ZUI OS to their next generation of Moto phones. The only manufacturer I can think of still planning on using a reasonably vanilla version of Android (apart from Google) is OnePlus.

I would have loved to get a Moto G5, but their design and specs did not meet my requirements.

Sadly the more I use the P10 lite, I am finding the advertised specs are not in the New Zealand model and the annoyances with EMUI 5.1 continue to grow.

I'll have to see what the One Plus 5 is like when its released ...

Back on topic .. do FoneFix advise when they have sent the phone back to you, or do they answer phone calls for enquires on what is happening with the repair?

Called up FoneFix to see what was happening with my device.

Apparently no more replacement Nexus 5X devices in the country, so they passed the phone over to BrightStar who have approved a credit - as I purchased the phone from Noel Leeming, everything now has to be done via Noel Leeming. Called up Customer Services who couldn't get through to the branch and so have left the branch manager a message to call me.

I wonder if anyone would have got in touch with me if hadn't made the first call.

(and I hope credit = refund and not credit to purchase a phone since I already purchased one and do not need two)

At this point its probably a really stupid idea, but I am toying around with purchasing another 5X with the primary goal to see what Android 8/O is like

PB Tech seems to have quite a few 32GB versions in stock but wants $550 which is too much for a 2 year old device with known issues. Anyone know of any other suppliers in New Zealand that have it cheaper, but also are not parallel imported due to the issues (ie, if the phone does die, I want to have a trouble free experience in trying to get it repaired/refunded)

Hi there,

I'm new here but I thought I would chip in my 2 cents ... In my experience using FoneFix for repairs, they've generally not contacted me until the repairs have been completed. In saying that however, the turn around time for both my repairs was fairly quick (5 days) I'd like to think that any longer than this they would make contact in someway shape or form to provide an update. The 1st repair I had done was sent directly to FoneFix, I ended up calling mid week to get an update and they were very polite considering that they were completely inundated with repairs and noted that I would have my phone back by the end of the week. The 2nd repair I had (separate device) was handled by JB Hifi and they handled all communication on behalf of FoneFix.

I'm quite surprised at Noel Leemings response to your fault given that your device is under warranty - by law they need to take ownership here. The credit that you're owed will likely be that of store credit unfortunately, when I had my phone repaired under warranty through JB Hifi, they offered the same outcome (store credit) if for some reason the device was unable to be repaired.

^ 6P is too big (I would have liked the 6P specs in the 5X)

And at this stage even the 6P has major issues so I would only purchase a Nexus new with receipt (and general preference is to get to never purchase a phone second hand)

I think even purchasing a new Nexus 5X would be a bit risky as there's still no guarantee that you won't run into the same problems again down the track. The other red flag is that Google is pulling the pin on Security updates for the 5X as of September 2018 as well as version updates in September this year - version updates might not be a problem as there is always someone putting out new ROMS.

I'm a fan of stock android myself so if you're looking at a replacement in the near future I'd recommend the OnePlus 3T (or hold out for the OnePlus 5) I've been using the 3T for a little over 3 months now and it's pretty much identical to the Nexus phones I've had, some might even argue that it's better.

Edit: I've just seen you own a P10.

There seems to be a lot of talk recently about how Google "just" published when they will stop supporting Nexus/Pixel devices.

That information was always public .. I knew purchasing my Nexus 4 when it would stop getting updates (its stuck on Android 5.1) and I knew that the Nexus 5X may not get Android 8 due to timing ..

As mentioned in my other thread where I was trying to find a new phone, the 3T was ruled out due to it having a button on the front

Currently in limbo with this

9/6 - Noel Leeming advised they were aware of the credit note but had to wait for something to happen, estimated "next week" for credit note to be issued

16/6 - called and asked for a update and it seems that Noel Leeming are still waiting for something to happen

Part of me is slightly worried that "something to happen" won't actually happen, and I wont end up with my credit note
