nzkiwiman:
^ Always the way
My credit is now ready for collection ... hopefully I can turn credit into cash
Cash received.
Decided it was a stupid idea to "reinvest" into another Nexus 5X. Will wait to see what the "Pixel 2" is and decide what I do at a more appropriate time (early 2018)
My Nexus 5X was also unable to be repaired. Cash refund from Warehouse Stationary.
No problems, no questions asked, no issues.

Just out of curiosity, did they provide a detailed run down of what was wrong and why it couldn't be repaired?

This is good to know as I bought my 5X through the Warehouse Stationary but so far it's still working fine.
From what I've read about the bootloop problem people seem to think that it's related to excessive heat causing components to come loose and detach. Since I play Pokemon Go quite a lot my phone regularly gets quite hot, so maybe it's just a matter of time before I experience the problem too.

No they didn't - but from my perspective it was the same problem everyone else has had (unable to boot)

Yes - I was impressed with the staff there.
I didn't think my Nexus would die - but one morning it just went black and that was that!

I used to play a stack of PokemonGo and my Nexus would always get pretty warm but not once did it have a meltdown during gameplay - in saying that however, there were a number of times where I thought that the constant heat up / cool down can't be good for the internals.
I posted this in another thread also but IMO a bulk of the problems were / are caused by buggy code with the release of Nougat, this is where I experienced the bootloop problem. In most cases the buggy code caused the system board to overheat which had a significant impact on components resulting in the solder to fail, and constantly rewriting to flash memory can't be good. In extreme cases, people were reporting the screen would actually lift off the surface from overheating.
Which version of Android are you currently on?
I don't know what I'll do when I get the dreaded bootloop. I only paid $300 for my 5x last Nov. I'm not sure any phone could replace it for $300.

I always update my phone when updates come out, it's currently on 7.1.2 with the 5 June 2017 security patch.
Friday it was my turn to experience the bootloop. Returned to PBTech in the weekend, who will send it back to LG I presume. Will have to wait and see what they come back with. Pretty bummed to lose the 5X, but at the moment I'm just glad I had a few months left in the warranty.
Appears mine was able to be repaired. Got my 5X back today from PBTech who said the mainboard was replaced.
My 5X has developed the boot loop, most annoyingly while I was using it overseas. PB have sent it off so will see what happens.....
Do the repaired versions use a modified PCB that isn't susceptible to the purported solder failure issue? Obviously I'm not keen to suffer this again.
Im now in the same boat, bootlooping fun. Wifes 5x was purchased april last year so over the standard 1 year, from Expert Infotech on the shore and is an imported device (by them). CGA would also come into affect i would assume since they are an nz company selling goods to me via being in NZ (purchased in store). I asked about the LG NZ 2 year coverage and obviously its from another location not NZ, here is their reply:
"
This is an imported product not LG NZ product.
Also, it is already mentioned on the invoice that product is covered with 1yr warranty.
"

Expert InfoTech is a NZ based business so the CGA & FTA would apply. Claiming such rights from other companies that employ a drop-shipping model such as BecexTech, generally becomes more problematic.
My Nexus 5X was returned from PBTech's wholesaler after being repaired after three weeks, however it still intermittently malfunctioned. PBTech offered me a full store credit and a deal on a replacement phone so things worked out well in the end.
Have joined the bootlooping fun too, 13 months after purchase.
Called Google, they went through recovery steps, found that it would not go into recovery mode. They said they couldn't provide support though and directed me to LG.
LG NZ had to verify the IMEI, and when they did they said it was not NZ/AUS stock so would not provide support.
I went into Noel Leeming and they claimed that under the Consumer Guarantees Act they are not the supplier (this is false and such a statement is illegal under the Fair Trading Act). They have sent the phone for assessment, so we'll see what happens next.
I'm seeking a full refund as there are a worrying number of people getting bootloops and no idea if their repairs actually fix the issue.
