Ain't we still in the "pre-order" date range however, the release of the phone is not till friday (5th May).

Part of the "pre-order" bonus was getting it up to a week early.

Yup the pre order was worth it for me, a 256gb card and $100 credit. Can't sneeze at any of those.

I am curious on how people upgraded to the S8, I upgraded because my 24 month contract had run out 3 weeks ago and this was an opportunity to upgrade from my S6 and get the $600 subsidy. Are you's on open plans and upgrade or your plan has ended etc or are you just paying full price for the phone. I thought you had to be either a new customer or be upgrading your account.

I've been out of contract with VF for about 6 months. Since my mobile is my only phone (no fixed line) and I travel overseas several times a year so need the most cost effective roaming (Spark do not even get close to VF on that) I really do not mind signing 2 year contracts and they offered me $1400 credit, so the S8+ cost me $200 (which they then financed for 24 months at zero percent anyway...!).

I'll flog my Xperia XZ when I am happy I have all the data across etc and get some fun money back from that too.

Legally they would be on very shaky ground if they had continued to offer the "pre-order" bonus after the pre-order date had passed. The commerce commission takes a very dim view of such things as well they should.

I suppose they could just offer a different bonus and call it something else!

Certainly the pre-order promotion at Noel Leeming was until 4 May, but also said while stock lasts. I was at pains to check with the salesman at the time that it included the SD card. He said it did, as there would be a different sku after the 4th. It will be the first thing I check when it arrives, because it is the only reason I pre-ordered.

As far as the promotion continuing, I believe it will be bundled in the future in the same way they did for the S7 and VR, or Gear S2.

Mine is working

Making sure you have a samsung account, and also make sure it has app permissions it needs (you can do this under the app area).

Check and check. I have an active Samsung account, which I've linked my device to. I've gone into app settings and given the app full control but its still coming up with the same error. Weird.

My Samsung faq

Does not say why it doesn't connect. Maybe the service hasn't been enabled in the good ol Ennn Zeeed?

Mine seems to have all permissions and I have an active Samsung account. Not to worried if its not of any use just don't like having things that don't work even if I don't use them.

With all this excitement on GZ about the S8+ I decided to order one on Monday directly from Samsung.

The good news and surprise is that the dispatch email showed that I managed to get a 256GB memory card.

The disappointing news is that Samsung only put part of my full delivery address I provided on the package.... Street and postal code.

As a result NZ Post has my package out on Rural Post joy ride in another district (and incorrect post code area)  looking for a street that does not exist in that area.

I guess it will turn up in a day or two...
