I've had the update on my N5X for over a week now and it's not been a great experience, assuming the update is the cause.

Firstly my wifi at home keeps disconnecting and telling me there is no internet connection. It also connected to a SSID which doesn't exist the other day. My neighbours are all a fair distance away and it was a generic Spark-blah SSID so I don't know where it came from.

Secondly each time I open a link on my phone, be it from an app or an email the first attempt to open the relevant app/browser page fails. If I close the opened app/page and click the link again it works perfectly.

I haven't had time to look at it properly yet, I'll leave that until the weekend.

Yeah the wifi disconnecting thing has been driving me crazy. Both home and work are fed off Ubiquiti AP's so I'm wondering if there's an incompatibility there. Some comments online indicate a problem with IPv6 on the 5X, but there's no option to disable IPv6 anymore. Having said that, the problem hasn't been as noticable in the past week.

I've also noticed the phantom wifi networks, even when out tramping lol

I see that a reset worked...then black screened for you, so I might just hang out for things to magicaly sort themselves out

Regarding my Nexus 5x, 32Gb: I lost the use of the camera when I updated to A7 - everything else works fine. since I needed the camera, I subsequently purchased another N5x which has functioned in all respects since.

When the A8 update arrived I had another look at my original N5x and updated it to Oreo - went through no trouble, but still no phone. Then I thought I'd have a look at the "Nova Launcher" so I installed it and to my surprise the camera app started working again! So if you have a Nexus 5x with a non-functioning camera, try the Nova Launcher.

Cheers.

Took my bootlooping N5X into Warehouse Stationary on 17/10 and was given the usual 'its out of warranty so we cant do anything' and then 'you have to contact LG' when I mentioned the CGA. Fortunately the boss came over and said he was happy to take care of it. I do wonder how many people leave the shop rather than questioning the robots on the front desk.

Anyway, I've heard nothing so just called WS to find out it was forwarded to LG on the 20th for replacement or full refund and escalated with them on 24th but they still haven't made a decision.

It's a shame because whilst I don't think it was a huge upgrade from the N5, I quite liked the N5X. In fact I've been using an old N5 and I've remembered why I loved it so much. The screen size is great (I have small hands and dont like using two hands on the phone) it's light, the battery life is ok but with the magnets and wireless charging it's easy to keep topped up. It's just a shame the screen is smashed, the volume rocker doesn't work and the camera wont start !

So if LG were giving credits back in May I guess I'll have to find something else now. The $300 N5X's on TM are tempting but I'm not sure it's worth the risk.

Returned 3 Nexus 5X's a week and a bit back to Warehouse Stationary. 2 purchased end of 2015 the other then end of 16. All with the boot loop.

Got the refund on the newest one today and the older 2 have been repaired via a new main board in the same chassis, (Warehouse sent them to FoneFix). I took the refund and am arguing the fix rather than refund on the other two. Had initially said when I first brought them in I want a refund under CGA as it's a known issue that can't be fixed, as replacing still has a good chance it'll die again.

Not quite sure how they could fix 2 but not the 3rd all with the same problem.

So I'm going to see what happens. They are going to contact head office as it's a Web order. I'm going to contact Consumer to see what my rights are around a known design flaw that kills phones. Might also check in with LG NZ what their current status is not mentioning the particulars of the actual case such as IMEI's firstly.

I would like a phone that I can trust will actually work. The boot loop issue means you can never trust it.

The staff member did initially tell me if I have problem I can take it up with FoneFix, which I said it's your problem to sort out, not me dealing with them. They also kind of indicated I was lucky to get a refund when I never returned a box or anything else with the phone. I can't keep every single box of everything I buy. If I did, I would have no where to live! Also finding chargers and headphones isn't always easy, they go into a random box somewhere never to be found again. Plus what can they do with headphones, you put them in your ears!!

I've only ever had one good experience with LG and that was a Nexus 5. Every other LG phone I've owned has had some sort of issue and the last one was the G4 with the... yep you guessed it, boot loop issue.

To me LG is cancer and I'll never touch another device. It's a shame because I like the look of the V30, but I ain't going there again.

The trusty Nexus 5. Mine still works. Kind of slow, old and sans security updates! Is still sitting as my emergency phone if my Pixel has problems, as I don't have a Nexus 5X to provide that duty.

I have just had the awful bootloop issue with my Huawei Nexus 6P and I didn't have all my data backed up. Everyone was telling me my phone would have to be wiped to get it working again but I was determined to find someone who could save my data. After countless hours of research and talking to data recovery companies I found Digital Recovery in Hamilton New Zealand and the guy there, James, managed to get my data off AND fix my phone! FYI the whole operation cost $370 which is super reasonable compared to prices I got from other places and also versus the price of losing thousands of memories. So don't give up hope and don't factory reset or wipe your device, there is hope to get your data back and get your phone working again. Give the guys at Digital Recovery a call on 0800 77 77 22 and hopefully they can help you too!

Was it just photos you wanted to restore from your phone or did you have other stuff?

When my 5X got struck with the bootloop I was able to restart it once or twice by letting it cool down / warming it up (gently - sitting on top of a power supply) and it worked long enough to back-up my messages.

And now my 5X has developed the bootloop problem. Took it back to The Warehouse Stationery along with the receipt, box, etc (yes I keep all that stuff). I've had the phone for 15.5 months and so printed the page from the LG website that says the phone has a 24 month warranty. The guy was very helpful and said he'll contact LG on Monday to see if they want to repair it or give me a refund. I'm thinking they'll just do a refund and then I'll probably get a Vodafone Smart V8 (my partner has been very impressed with her one).

Have a look at the Nokia's (Parallel Imported, Spark branded ones are slow on updates). I replaced my N5X with a Nokia 8 and i've been impressed so far. (There's an Android 8.1 Beta out for it now, and security updates take about 2 weeks after Google announces them)

The Nokia 8 is too pricey for me, I don't want to spend more than $400, preferably closer to $300. I only paid $399 for my 5X 15 months ago so I should be able to find something of comparible performance for about $300 today.
