helicrew: You could do what I did with the Nexus One and use Shipito. A bit slower but can save you the GST.

Walk me through this option if you could please.

create account at http://www.shipito.com/ and read tutorial.
only good if you want nexus form USA.
Desire not in USA yet AFAIK
better to get through clove with the recent price drop

crux: Right, I rang up as I was tired of waiting. Turns out they had the wrong contact number for me and have been trying to call me for charges since the 16th. I paid $127. The guy was quite helpful but said the package was still in the UK, or is it?

Just had a look at my credit card statement as was only charged $100.75. Haven't got a receipt for it yet though.

Linuxluver:
Ambrose_1: Has anyone not paid GST?

Was considering of ordering one, sending it to my sister in Edinburgh and getting her to send it back to me as a gift. Although I probably won't as it is fairly dodgy and would have to pay two lots of shipping.

UK VAT is higher than NZ GST. (17.5% vs 12.5%)

Don't do this.

Haha, I knew there would be some catch

Yeah I had a thought that shipping it to the US would avoid the VAT then, then onto NZ, but it would add extra shipping and probably isn't worth the hassle.

Received this today from Clove:

Your order did go yesterday, but unfortunately, there was a problem with obtaining the tracking number. We are willing to send another to you, but there is a chance you will end up with 2, in which case we would have to arrange the return of the second!

Would you like us to do this, or could you wait a few days for the first delivery?

Sorry about this, it is most unusual.

Most unusual indeed. Think I will take them up on the second phone. In the case that the first never arrives, it could make for a looooong wait before getting the next.

Interesting...I wonder if their problem obtaining the tracking number is something to do with the presumably chaotic FedEx world at the moment. Imagine the backlog of items due to the recent problems! My package is still stuck in London with "Delay beyond our control" - been there since 20 April!

Mine's been there since the 18th! I'm still waiting... and I think people who ordered around my time have all already got theirs. I rang FEDEX and the lady was a bit confused and took down some details and shes going to get back to me.

Looks like i may have ordered at just the right time....ordered tuesday night (at 330) and just had a call from FedEx to pay the GST (which came to $99.something).  Hopefully they do Saturday delivery!  Can't wait to get my hand's on it!

I dont think they do Sat delivery, but if you are in AK you may be able to go to FEDEX at the airport and pick it up.

I'm sorry to say being called for GST payment does not mean the parcel is even in the country. I was called a couple of days ago, even when the tracking says it's still stuck in London, with "Delay beyond our control".

Damn - they did say they had the package in auckland customs, but you are right it could be them being pro-active so the delivery is expedited when it does arrive.

Well that's different then - they didn't say my package is in Auckland - good for you! Darn it! Very frustrating for those of us still waiting...and turning greener by the day, and not in a good environmentally-friendly way either! Tongue out
