I see rumors starting on XDA re the S4 having locked boot-loader on the I9505 model, won't worry a lot of users but for those of us that like to use Android to its fullest it will be a blow."

"If you're hoping to run custom ROMs in place of TouchWiz, you may have to wait for a little while since Samsung has confirmed to us that the bootloader is locked.

What version are you wanting to purchase, the I9505 (quad core) or the I9500 (octa core)

The best price I have seen to date is $999 for the I9500, 16GB, from Mobicity....they also have the I9505 for$1045.

I have read, that the I9500 is also 4G capable, from an official Samsung statement.

Rooted is still a possibility but without boot loader custom roms become difficult

The best price I have seen to date is $999 for the I9500, 16GB, from Mobicity....they also have the I9505 for$1045.

If you take the 16GB I9500 all the way through the cart to the checkout process, the grand total comes to $1,210.92. The price you see on Mobicity product pages, is not the grand total you pay. There is always more for GST, customs, and shipping.

Whilst I wait for my phone to arrive I went down to my local Noel Leeming this morning and picked up a casemate 'barely there' case, a screen protector, and one of the new MHL adaptors. I was tempted by the new smart flip cover option but not only was it more expensive but they only had the white smart flip cover in stock. They had various other coloured flip covers which were the same as they always have been.

I'm a bit wary of the possibility of it having a locked boot loader but I'm not really worried as there is precedent for that to be 'fixed'. It might just not mean I can run a custom rom as soon as I would have liked. But in any case, i'd like to see what it's like stock first.

I don't think that is entirely correct but is a factor, I would think getting quicker updates and deleting bloatware good reasons as well.

I think people get bugs by using mis-matched kernels/firmwares, not correctly installing firmware or downloading latest release without waiting to see the issues. There are also the dev's that just roll out new versions without really checking them out first due to people wanting the latest and greatest now.

Ifg it has a locked bootloader I'm sure it won't be insurmountable to dev's but it will be a nuisance

I'm thoroughly enjoying my S4 :) I upgraded from an S2 yesterday and am loving the extra real estate.

I was also the first to get one from a VF store according the message that popped up on the computer screen when he put the sale through. Not sure if that's in Wellington or NZ but all I was doing was popping in on the way to play football!

That was only per orders I think as Samsung itself has been saying that NZers will be the first ones to get them in hand. Oh well either way a great buy.

Have to agree with this. I had a custom rom on my S3 and found it buggier and slower than just standard. I've just got a note 2 and I only found a need to root it so I can use titanium to its full potential. I have no need to install a custom rom. Especially with some of the features that other launchers use.
