Out of interest did anybody sign up for the class action suit against LG for these faulty phones? My son had a 5X and was never notified alas since the payout is quite generous
Staying in Wellington. Check out my AirBnB in the Wellington CBD. https://www.airbnb.co.nz/h/wellycbd PM me and mention GZ to get a 15% discount and no AirBnB charges.
After not hearing from The Warehouse Stationary I popped in on my way home and spoke to the guy that is handling my return. He said that after I'd dropped off my bootlooping 5X he had three more come in with the same problem. He has been instructed that they need to be returned to Australia where they will be checked and destroyed and then they'll receive credit for the phones and then they can provide me with my refund. So looks like LG (or whomever makes this decision) has decided not to repair them.
I popped into The Warehouse Stationary to check on the progress of my warranty claim on my bootlooping 5X and received a pleasant surprise. All the paperwork we were waiting on had been done and I received my cash refund. I had decided to buy a Vodafone V8 and knew that The Warehouse Stationary had them for $299 but had them on special for $239 on the weekend that I returned my broken 5X nearly 2 weeks ago. I cheekily asked if they would sell me one at the discounted price and they said sure! So a good result all round and kudos to The Warehouse Stationary!
I have just noticed my 5X is stuck on Andrroid 8.1.0 security patch 5 Nov 2017?
Ant ideas on how to get it to update as the normal way is not working?
So my 19 month old Nexus 5x finally bootlooped today. Last day of a holiday away so have a days worth of photos that hadn't been backed up as we weren't around wifi. Am gutted.
Will head into Warehouse Stationary and see what they say - any tips about what I should be asking to happen? Think I'll aim for a refund of some sort if possible and start looking for a new phone. Really loved the Nexus - so many great features.

HiKenny! I owe you a beer!
Broke out the hairdryer - gave it a blast and managed to get it started. Have backed up the photos and we'll see how long it lasts!
I'll try the XDA path that BatWing suggests as well - pretty sure I had to enable the OEM bootloader so have done that while I'm in as well.
Wondering what the Warehouse Stationary position will be though - think the phone is now past it's best so will have to start shopping around for a new one I think.
Thanks again to everyone!
There was a thread the other day from someone who took their one back to NL, and ended up getting the motherboard replaced. I would reccomend that you tell them if the fault is substantial you wish to reject the goods. Have that written in the work order when you send it in under the CGA, which is your right. A new MB I would consider substantial.
My one was refunded in full after boot looping, that was September last year.
Mine was refunded in full by Warehouse Stationary, a couple of months ago. It had to be sent to Australia to be checked before LG would credit WS, so I had to wait a week for my refund.
Took mine into WS today - after a bit of back and forth they have taken the phone and the "repair" process begins. Seemingly going to some place in Auckland first, to then go to Australia, to then get a refund issued to WS who then gives it to me. Sounds like they are following some sort of process to the letter but I've told them (as per one of the other posters) that I intend to reject the goods if a substantial repair is required and that my ideal outcome is a full refund. Will see how that all turns out - Easter will probably delay the outcome.
The hunt for a new phone now begins - think I'll try and find a Pixel (1) somewhere if anyone has any tips!!
My ~2.5 year old (bought on release) started boot looping over the weekend. Now it won't boot at all.
Despite being out of warranty I intend on pushing for repair/refund under CGA as the phone is in immaculate condition and has never been dropped or anything. I have phoned LG and they have taken 2 days to "validate the IMEI", once they've done that I'll take it to warehouse stationary. Any tips? A refund would be ideal!!
Just an update to my above post - LG have replaced the mainboard under CGA with no effort required on my behalf.
Given the phone is 2.5 years old (and out of wararnty) I'm happy with the mainboard replacement option. If it lasts another year then I'll be happy.
