ArtooDetoo: Anyone know if there's a compelling reason to move from JPU to JPY? In my "it ain't broke" wisdom, I was thinking of waiting until Gingerbread hit before upgrading, but that may be a long way off or even never, so I thought I'd get some input anyway.

Completely impossible to quantify the difference, but my nerd-ometer quite clearly indicates that JS3 is smoother and faster than a cheetah dipped in gravy.

I think it's a lot of little refinements and tweaks rather than any one massive change. But there's no question my SGS is now the best it's ever been.

Interesting, for me something about JS3 gets under my skin a little. And I don't know what it is. I'm just cooking a JPY right now to flash. I've had enough of JS3. And I don't like SM. I'm going to flash Trasig's v666.2 back over the rom - I had much better battery life.

lofreq: you will need to tick the appropriate option in the configurator, and then reboot and reflash. if youre happy with the current setup other than this little issue, surely dont bother with the wipe - just do a nonwipe, and enjoy your phone for a bit!

ive found that i get so caught up in flashing this that and the next thing that i dont settle down to actually enjoy what ive got. been sitting on 9.2 for a while now, gave NeonGT theme a try, and now im just happy to sit back and "discover" the new themed screens and apps as i use the phone, and enjoy the speed! its good :)

Reflashed Darky's 9.2, chose the wipe version and went with the standard wifi driver. No more wifi issues. Agree the speed is good, how the phone should have been out of the box....Whats the NeonGT theme you mentioned, the standard theme that comes with Darky's rom?

He he, that's what makes this all so exciting - everyone's experiences are different. . . .Just reading the Trasig thread, it sounds like there's been no new releases for a while?

I love SpeedMod, it has the best image quality out of any of the kernels and it just works.

Yeah it's never let me down; have you had a play with the warm/cool colour settings in k13? Still trialling them myself. . . .

@nofam: I'm sure we can work something out ;) and there's been no development for a while and yet I'm still prepared to go back to it than stay on SM. Not so keen about loosing Voodoo control latest changes.

In other news, did you get an opportunity to full in a survey on Geekzone?

beaten to it. but yes, that. i tried that "generation X theme" and didnt like it, i find the greens in this one the most pleasing. i dont like the square battery mod, prefer version A of circle battery, but i cant find a CWM flashable versionA battery that doesnt also ruin lockscreens and stuff... so square it is. (im too lazy/scared of stuffing around with framwork.apk zip repackaging and crap... rather stick to simple CWM flashing)

have only started delving into flashing themes and themed apps so its uncovered a whole new frikin world of customisation... and late night flashing.... haha

man my microusb cable is getting thrashed.

I have tried Generation theme, didn't like the black ground in the gmail app. I will have to read up more on how to backup my current theme or hope that Darky creates a CWM version of his stock theme.

no need to thrash the cable

i only use my cable for charging. i use dropbox via wifi for transferring files(roms, mods etc) to and from the pc and phone. or use the xda app for quick access to the forums and links and just download straight to my phone.

You do realise JPU was so long ago that many of us probably don't even remember it. I can't remember JPU. I like JPY though :)

As I recall, history went something like this...

- OMG! JPU is awesome! Everybody try it!

- OMG! its true, its how the phone should have been since day one! I don't even need a lag fix anymore!!!!

........

- Oh hey, this new JPY is even better!

- Oh yeah, its sweet and Y comes after U! Go Samsung!

So there you have it. JPU was the revolution. JPY more of an evolution.
You won't get that huge leap that JPU presented over everything before it, but it won't be a step backwards in any regard.
JS3 is an even lesser change and as Neets suggests, it may even be a step backwards. JS2 was actually released after JS3, so there may be something to that theory.

Well thanks for the contributions peeps.

In summary then, "WTF was JPU?, which was like, the mutt's nuts a couple of weeks back but JPY is OMG sick, although JS3 may or may not be like, sick-er dude, but then maybe not so much, although SpeedMod is absolutely the shizzle unless you like, don't need it".

Or something like that...

So I guess I'll do the boring thing and leave the SGS running sweetly until GB turns up or not and think about what I might do then. Or not, if I get the mad desire to flash stuff.
