to save using your usb cable there is a programme called Android wifi manager (link to market - https://market.android.com/details?id=com.mobileaction.AmAgent) this lets you copy files, sync & backups + probably some other stuff to - very handy as long as your using a wifi router and its free.

XWJS5 Doesn't sound like it's anything terribly exciting. I wish gingerbread roms would start leaking..

I'm probably missing something here, but what's the fascination with Gingerbread?  Are there some killer features I don't know about?

Should be not too long now that 2.4 is Gingerbread.

I think the main thing for me is the promised speed improvements, which we can see apparent in the Nexus S which uses the same processor as the SGS.

Here's a list of some features that I found on a site

  • SIP-based VOIP

  • Near Field Communications (NFC)

  • Gyroscope and other sensors

  • Multiple cameras support

  • Mixable audio effects

  • Download manager

  • StrictMode -monitor performance of apps

  • UI Framework – Overscroll, touch filtering, activity control, text selecton, webview

  • Extra Large Screen support

  • Graphics: full OpenGL ES 2.0

  • Improvements in ContentProvider, Location, Dalvik VM performance (parallel GC)

You can see the official Android Developers entry for more details: http://developer.android.com/sdk/android-2.3.html

downloads ability would be awesome

does NFC require special hardware tho? or does it work over traditional wifi/bluetooth/existing hardware in the SGS??

Unfortunately NFC requires hardware. I imagine that someone will invent a miniature NFC-in-a-case type thing that communicates with your phone via Bluetooth.

Does anyone know if there is a way to disable notification when the battery is fully charged? Why would anyone want such a notification?

I have a tasker profile that disables screen timeout when on power. When I plug my phone in beside the bed at night, screen locked (i.e. black), the phone vibrates once it is fully charged, and the screen comes on and doesn't turn off.  Fricken annoying. I suppose I could work around it somewhat by modifying my tasker profile to only do the screen timeout disable thing when plugged in during daylight hours, but I'll still end up with the unwanted vibration.

im lazy enough (but also happy enough with phones current performance) to sit back and wait for the improvements Darky is talking about for 9.3, which will most likely be based on JS5 and include Hardcore's latest and greatest :)

still... no rush aye ;p
