NikT:

WaxerNZ: Huawei Facebook says memory expandable which would make it dual SIM?

Makes it dual slot, doesn't make it dual SIM. :)

So, it's different from Mate 20 pro? Where you have dual slot that can be used for either a Memory card OR another Sim card?

Sorry, I am confused

The above photography discussion thread about Huawei's latest "iPhone killer" is titled:

Is this a phone with a camera? Or, a camera with a phone

This discussion is well worth reading IMHO.

I find it interesting that after reading an article about how bad dedicated camera sales are outside of professional work that someone would suggest making a dedicated camera using the technology.

A lot of People aren't willing to look outside their perspective or discuss sensibly their points of view. Same with politics.

Also because they mention it so much the posters were clearly not made with the phone. Nor should companies be expected to shoot their advertising with the product being advertised. If people want to take posters literally then why not ask why there isn't a mode on phone that enhances just a small circle zoomed in.

It's about hinting at features like the split screen without giving away surprise before announcement.

Through announcement video they made very clear all setting used in comparison shots.

On another note The Parker walbeck video is sweet.

Yeah, different from the Mates. Confusing given that Nano memory cards are the same form factor as Nano SIM cards, but it is to my understanding that all NZ P30/Pro stock will support single SIM card only regardless of the physical tray.

DXO has it well out in front, with the p20 pro and the mate 20 pro both equal right behind it. Huawei is making a mockery of Samsung and Apple.

Of course I take synthetic results with a pinch of salt, but from what Ive seen this is an even better Leica setup

Yeah thats usually reserved capability of cameras with IBIS via motors. I do wonder if this is using the bokeh technology as they do not mention the Shutter Speed, which would be minimum 4 seconds here, which I cant see it being possible, so imo it will be a feature in the camera for water and water fals..

The night shot does not say without tripod, so not so impressive, any 1.4u, sensor and sub f2 sensor could shoot equal photos. BUT this new sensor type could explain the ability to allow more light in, replacing RGB with RYB, weird but will try to understand it more indepth but here is the break down.

https://www.popsci.com/huawei-p30-smartphone-camera-sensor#page-3

I think some people are getting a little unrealistic comparing it to a camera though, no way it will take photos or video like a Sony A7r3 with a $1500 wide angle lens.

Luckily some cameras are moving back to being photography focussed and some videography focussed.

If you want amazing cinemaphotography that is almost acceptable at Netflix level for $1700, the BlackMagic pocket 4/3 is 100% video focussed.

Used the Phone Clone app to copy content from my Mate 20 Pro to the P30 Pro. IT worked well - although very few apps didn't copy accross. Most apps were installed and some even kept login details.

Information from the email they sent to use today:

The HUAWEI P30 has an RRP of $1,099 and the HUAWEI P30 Pro RRP is $1,499. The devices come with a stunning design and are available in Aurora (green-blue gradient), Breathing Crystal (light blue gradient) and Black. The devices will be available to pre-order on the Friday 29 March and in stores from 12 April.

I think they are about $300 over priced, what did the p20 pro originally list as? This isnt their flagship model, the Mate is supposed to be. The last thing Huawei should do is try to compete with Samsung on price as the Samsung IMO is a superior device all round and its camera is very close to the Huawei.

I wonder if we will see the P20 Pro drop from $800 given its getting long in the tooth now.

People are saying this wahttps://www.engadget.com/2018/08/20/huawei-caught-passing-off-dlsr-pictures-as-phone-camera-samples/s shot with the p30. If you listen to the guy after the video it sure sounds like it. If so, a new camera phone goes to the top of the heap, insane.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S4UHq_4jAGM

I'd take with a grain of salt - it could be more of the same deceptive marketing of old.  link here

Confirmation that video was shot with a p30 pro :-)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TaX-0JqxsQE

Whilst its not a BlackMagic Pocket 4k camera, it should compete with most 1" 4k videos.

Sorrt for the comments but learning a lot quickly here from good sources, aiwaiting GSMs thoughts. But here is what Techradar have to say with an early mini review.

Im impressed by the P30 going back to 16:9 with a standard 1080p oled screen. Provided the screens arent curved more than the p20 I cant see any light bleed issues occuring.

The other standout to me is the gen 4 fast charge INCLUDED in the box, most make you buy one and give you gen 2, so both phones charge at 70% in 30 mins, WOW. The p30 pro being wireless charge capable, for me thats a meh when I can fast charge enough for a whole days use in my lunch break lol.

This explains how the Sensor replaces the RYB (instead of RGB) and recovers to allow a LOT more light in along with the f1.6 lens. It essentially uses an algorithm to put the green back in, flippin awesome technology. It also shows the angles and zooms well and when the hybrid zoom from x5x to 10x quicks in.

@TeaLeaf please, do you think instead of making 6 replies in a row you could put them all into one post?

Maybe open the quote button for each post into a new window and type out the reply there then copy them all into one post then make the reply?
