I'm keen to look at the trade in timmmay mentioned. That is exceptionally good and enough to put up with potential continuing network issues while still gnashing teeth about it of course..

I just bought one from amazon, listed as the UK(GB) version, so no camera shutter, and the price included the GST. The price seemed really reasonable and it's from amazon itself, not  a random seller, so hopefully it will be okay!

Estimated shipping is between october 23 and... dec 22, though. I'll hope for sooner over later.

(I was going to say "long-time lurker, first time caller", but it turns out I already had an account from back when I bought the Pixel 2. Which I'm still using until the 7 gets here. Goodbye, free photo storage.)

@Swamphen let us know how it is when it arrives. If the Pixel 7 can be made to use VoLTE without too much hassle I'll trade in my 4a for a 7.

@timmmay can you talk about the logistics of completing that trade in transaction? Is NZ credit card and youshop or similar enough to get it done?

No idea, I'd have to work that out. It might even mean posting the phone to someone in US / Au and having them do it.

Will do! I'll see if I can figure it out or test with another sim, though I don't think I'd switch back to Spark just for VoLTE (I ended up switching to 2degrees because Spark didn't support the pixel 2 bands). I make 2-3 voice calls a year, so it doesn't seem like such a big deal, though obviously by saying that I've jinxed it, and I'll be stuck tramping for the first time in my life and not be able to make a 111 call or something. :)

GoogleGeek88: I have pretty much decided I'll be getting a P7P, despite the VoLTE situation and no 5G. Having a Sammy work phone has confirmed for me that I don't want to to that way for my personal device and I heavily prefer the Pixel camera science.

I am ideally waiting for Mighty Ape to get stock, but I see that Becextech (whatever that is) has them for a price that is literally too good to be true. Meanwhile Parallel Imported NZ is charging a cool $2000 for a 128gb Pro model... From Japan so will have the camera shutter noise.

I'm going to Australia end of March, so if the prices are too steep I'll pick one up then and claim the tax off at the border (which I think you can still do). The only issue will be my lack of willpower until then haha

I didn't know about the border refund thing! I will try this next time I visit. Thanks!

Real. Reliable. Trustworthy. I have purchased from them in the past. On recommendation from a friend. Just one problem - they represented Pixel 5a 5G as being 5G capable on Spark. It was not. I more or less expected this in NZ so it was not a total shock for me. They operate out of Hong Kong and have no office in NZ despite using a .NZ domain. Other than those aspects, all communication was good, responsive and I'd use them again. No idea why they insist on advertising support for a specific carrier in NZ without testing NZ carriers at all, well actually I do know because they told me, they do a supported band lookup and call it good without any further investigation. There you go. Good communication there ; )

I have ordered from them before and had no problem. I haven't tried any warranty or other remediations through them though.

I have a query in with them, asking what model variant they are stocking. I don't want to accidentally buy a Japanese market model and have to live with a permanent camera shutter noise. Given their proximity to Japan... It seems likely.

I get the warning in the AU store, "To place an order, your delivery address must be in this region"

how are you getting it delivered locally?
