I'm running the Doc rom in my signature but that has been replaced with JS5(Too lazy to upgrade), I'm using the TNZ CSC for Telecom XT and Speedmod(K13A). Seems to work all fine and dandy, I'm sure the newer Doc Rom (JS5) would provide better performance and would do fine, CSC is really dependant on whether your Voda or XT(VNZ or TNZ). I think Speedmod is more aimed at stability compared to Voodoo but have only ever used Speedmod, and it is recommended.

While we are on the topic of CSCs I have a wee problem.

After flashing Darky's 9.2 last week have just realised I am not able to receive calls (I am on XT). The phone rings once and then the reception bars drop to nothing and the phone loses service. Once the call has been cut off, it all comes back up again.

I can make calls, send / receive text messages and get mobile data and connect to wireless. Phone suggests it is on the telecom network.

My CSC is JP9 (XEE).....before flashing it used to say (TNZ). I note some people have a CSC as XEU, as opposed to VNZ or TNZ, so thought having XEE wouldn't be an issue....and it might not be, but I am miffed as to why I can't receive calls.

Would appreciate any thoughts you good folks might have as to what might be causing this problem, or any suggestions how it fix it.

Have you checked your IMEI to make sure it's intact? It will be printed on a sticker behind the battery somewhere - you can check it on the phone by dialing *#06#. Make sure they match.

more important would be, what modem are you on? (settings - about phone - baseband version)

i have found that the UGJL2 modem has the best performance and battery performance, followed by JPA. what is your phone using?

Baseband is JPY, which i thought was standard for darky. How did you get JL2 ?

I went from Eclair, to Darky's v8.0 (wipe), then to v9.2 (no wipe).

[edit] - I have a hunch the phone wasn't working properly after doing the v8.0 install, before I went to v 9.2.

i think we going to have to get use to see this thread go mega big as all the telecom galaxy's(now in stock) are all on eclair ,like one generation behind ( i don't see them updateing it soonish either ) another thread for just the updating? or will this carry on to be mega big thread :)

You can get JL2 by downloading the CWM version: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=10188028&postcount=177 and then flashing it via CWM. Takes 5 seconds, quite painless. Even though I don't use Darky's I know when I did(9.02 and 9.1) that Darky suggested doing a wipe if moving up a few versions to fix a few problems, but I think they were force closes etc not call dropping.

As long as you have Titanium Backup pro(I haven't splashed out on it yet) you can backup all of your apps etc really quick and then restore them again on your new rom, so the whole flash process isn't that painful. You could always try and do a reflash but as you said, a lot of people like Doc's, I find it flawless, fast and more stable then my experience with Darky's and have been using the same rom for about 3 weeks without any major issues. I'm sure Lofreq will appose this as he uses Darky's but If your not sure try them both out. Hope this helps

the idea behind changing the modem is because different modem files are optimised for different frequency bands depending on your country.

the JPY modem does seem to work for the most part but the JPA or JL2 modems are more suited to countries that run 850mhz HSDPA, which is what XT uses. so it makes sense to use the optimised modem.

you say youve tried the CWM version of the JL2 modem and it failed - what happened exactly?

to answer your question, i used ODIN to flash the JL2 modem back over the top of Darky's default. i know many oppose Odin, but ive never had any trouble, its quick, and has never failed. id recommend you get an odin version of the JL2 modem, and just flash it across. it wont wipe anything on your phone, it will just update the modem file, which is only 12mb or so.

finally, you should really try the different ROM options out there and see what works best for you. these phones arent the best when you just sit back and put up with it - you have to go out of your way to optimise them before they come alive. i have not tried Docs rom but to be fair it does seem like its more professionally put together, and id believe the stability claims - im a bit lazy backing up my stuff but id love to try a docs build next.

my gadget shield turned up today have to say i was disappointed with it (9$nz ), makes the colors on screen slightly dull and not as smooth as the glass ,same material as the zag shield .

anyone point me to the totaly clear and smooth protectors tried to find the link pass few pages cant find it now

thinking of getting flexible rubber skin for the back any ideas link tell me

Today i decided to turn the wifi off and so far since 6:10 - 10 00 am my battery is down to 83% didnt use much only had a phone call for half an hour and some texts... should i flash the JL2 modem or should i wait few days?and its on JPY modem

Leave things for a couple of days to see how the battery stats adapt. If things don't get better (as happened to me with my flash), then flash a wifi driver kernel hack. Worked really well for me.

Just as a matter of interest, did you flash with your battery charged 100%? Failing to do that seems to cause poor battery performance for a lot of folks... you can re-calibrate your battery by charging to full with your phone off, discharging it until the phone turns off by itself, then charging it again to full with the phone off once more.

Some folks believe 'bump' charging at the end of the full charge helps, but I have my doubts.

as mentioned above, recalibrate your battery. search google or this forum for the steps involved, but R2 has detailed the basics already. phone performance is usually crap right after a flash and improves as the system starts re-learning what the battery's empty and full points really are

as for JL2, dont just flash randomly - are you on XT or vodafone? the answer will guide you to choose the modem optimised for the frequencies of your carrier.

Wifi driver kernal hack have you got a link for that? so i can read up about it.

Nope its was at 80% i shall try that when my battery runs out. Battery's at 79% with the wifi off, it does shows that wifi eat heaps of battery.
