Sheagae:

Just installed it manually.

Oh, how do you do that, ran the check for updates and it came back with nothing....can you force it to update?

Updated this morning, so far haven't noticed anything out of the ordinary (still works which is ultimately a good thing)

Has anyone found a decent source of USB Type-C to USB Type-C cables at reasonable price in NZ?  I've just lost my send USB-C to USB-C cable (or someone swiped it) and I don't want to pay to import a bunch more from Amazon just yet.

Alternatively, does anyone have a spare USB Type-C to Type-C cable they'd like to sell off at a reasonable price?

I guess it depends on what you think a suitable price is, you can pick them up off the Apple.co.nz site for $55 for a 2 metre one (that seems quite pricey in my eyes...however that's about the same price you can pick them up off Google Store as well

This is probably a better deal direct from Google

I came across these the other day

They aren't in NZ, but they apparently have a very good reputation for quality. Unfortunately their cheapest postal method is prohibitive, but via YouShop would come out at about $30 for one of the cheaper cables. If you got a few extras the $18 YouShop fee would become a lot less significant.

The good thing is that they appear to have taken the USB-C specification seriously.

I got some cables after I bought 2 6Ps and one of them charges fine but cannot be used to connect to computers.
It looks identical to one which does work.

Grabbed it today when I was down at the store - thought it would be best to give the forum a heads on the deal.

I gave that to my sister because she wanted one with a bigger screen and I wanted one with more storage than 64GB.

Now I've taken it back to 2degrees twice for repair and am taking it back for a third time today. Got this as part of the Geekzone deal originally.

1st time returned 02/16:

  • All apps freezing "this application has had an error and has crashed | OK", random reboots, hang on boot
  • Wiggly USB-C would only charge when slight pressure applied on a given angle.
  • Tried checking for updates, hard resets, different (certified) USB-C cables - nothing fixed
  • Repair fixed wiggly USB-C by apparently replacing the charge port PCB, freezing persists.

2nd time returned 03/16:

  • Seems the charge port PCB also contains the main mic don't know if related but now mic seems to be muffled / or working at approx 5% normal sensitivity. Googling says may be related to sound cancellation but short of rooting device there are no settings to change this - April updates don't appear to have resolved.
  • Repair replaced motherboard PCB - new IMEI issued. Still testing app freezing, random reboot, boot hang issue - appears to be resolved. Mic low sensitivity issue still persists.

So thinking about bringing it back again because the mic seems to not be working. I like to think I'm careful with my phones, no drops, no water, always with a case. Appears to be more scuffing from the repairs than from me. Have gone through 3x iPhones with only normal battery wear and not had a single issue. My second attempt at a flagship Android is pushing me back to Apple unfortunately.

Anyone else with similar issues?

I'd be asking for a replacement unit if I were you, I've had nothing like this happen with my device (and haven't heard of any similar issues with any other Nexus 6P devices. Sounds like you got a dodgy unit that missed QA at the factory. Doesn't leave a very nice taste in the mouth.
