What's JS7?

I'm still using JS3, haven't seen the need to upgrade yet.

Let me know if you see anything different, I don't feel I need to flash it but I'll probably end up doing so; I cave in too easily :P

Got bored at work today (finishing on Thursday - New Year, New Job!! w00t!), so had a wee flash as per my sig.

Running the usual speedmod tweaks, everything still RFS - veeery nice.  Am trying the BUJP5 modem too, as it's recommended in the Kitchen as the best for Vodafone (why not I say?  If it's crap I'll flash the JPY one back).

Boot time seems a lot quicker actually, and the browser seems faster too on graphical sites.  Will keep testing. . . .

Check out the theme I'm using too; it's pretty damn good for a release candidate/1st Galaxy S theme!!

I was wondering what modem to try next. JL2 has been a little bit weak and I was ready for a change.
Your early impressions would be good but I suspect I'll probably flash the phone before you get the chance.

Yes but you said "If it's crap I'll flash the JPY one back". You haven't stated whether its crap or not.

Right - sorry. . . .Early days yet of course, but just went out and did a GPS test - lock to 5m accuracy in about 10 seconds, so at least as good as JPY; Wifi range seemed good in my back yard too.

I'm mostly interested in battery life to be honest - will see what the drain is overnight.

Thanks, that does sound promising.

Despite JL2 modem giving a weak signal, my battery life with it (JS3 and Speedmod K12c) has been really good up till about a week ago when it suddenly started turning to crap. Not sure what was responsible but battery usage shows the wifi as being the biggest hog.

So skipping straight over JS5 and going to a new modem + latest stable speedmod kernel sounds like a good idea to me.

Yeah, the general opinion on Doc's XDA thread is that the rom is on steriods...is it just those things you mentioned or is there a speed increase all round? Eg opening apps, switching menus..
