lokhor: Are you guys doing a full wipe when upgrading?

Always - convert back to RFS, full factory reset, clear cache, wipe dalvik cache, then flash wipe rom. It's the old YMMV rule, but restoring everything from SMS messages to Angry Birds save games takes about 20 minutes tops, so in my opinion an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

+1, not to say I have upgraded yet(I'm nearly caved in) but I always use a wipe rom

Yeah, if you're sticking with the same kernel (i.e. Speedmod in my case) it's not necessary, but maybe it brings me luck or something - I never get FC's or market problems or any of the issues that plague people on XDA. . . .flashing doesn't even make me nervous any longer.

Well at this stage it's certainly the best ever - I didn't bother upgrading to JS5, so I can't comment on that, but the the smoothness of this ROM is at another level again.

Regarding the BUJP5 modem, with 3G and Wifi switched off, I only had a 1% drain overnight. This is a good baseline figure, so I'll see how it goes today with general use; on JS3/XXJPY I was losing around 20% during the course of a day (off charge at 7:30am, down to 80% by 10:30pm).

Not running ext4 conversions yet, as I want to see if RFS has any effect on battery life, and it's smooth/fast enough as it is.

Nah, not really. . .;-)

Typical use is e-mail checking/browsing on 3G at work, maybe the odd sms during the day and maybe 1 call a day on average. Nighttime usage is wi-fi web browsing, gaming, XBMC remote, sms, music playing when mowing the lawns etc, Cardiotrainer with GPS when out walking.

Not extreme, but moderate use I guess.

Two questions

Does anybody know where to obtain a stock ROM for the I9000 from Telecom New
Zealand? I believe there is only Eclair, but would like to be proven wrong. I
may require this in case of any warrany issues and to reset before upgrading to
Gingerbread (at least I am led to believe this).

Which modem are you using (again Telecom NZ) on your custom ROMs? I have
tried a few and I am currently using JL2. I had to flash this separately while
using Darky's ROM 9.3, which worked fine in some parts of town but not at all in
others (I presume it could not handle the 850 band).

1) you should be able to use Kies to simply re-flash an official version back onto your i9000t. Telecom released an update recently to combat call quality etc, the firmware is an iteration of Eclair 2.1, so its official, TNZ boot animation etc. I dont know if you can get the same thing via Odin tar file or other, however, which may be more helpful than mucking around with the useless Kies

2) im using UGJL2 on mine with good results, batterywise anyway. GPS lock fast, WIFI no problems, however i havent had a chance to venture too far - furthest ive been was mount manganui, and everything functioned perfectly, 3G data down on the beach at papamoa, no problems.

UGJL2 IS designed for 850mhz environments, i think its one that was optimised for 850mhz mexico?? ive been using it for a while now but im open to upgrading if there is a better 850 contender out there.

any reason why you are wanting stock firmware, other than for emergency warranty issues? im running darky's 9.3 + speedmod (ext2 lagfix) + the JL2 modem, everything is like butter, 2000+ quadrant scores, and 48+ hrs battery... its almost boring theres nothing else to tweak on it! :)

i have tried the JK4 850g modem , couldn't really tell the deference, currently on the JL2 as well ,seems to be working better with the latest's doc rom V9.8 i'am on, better reception or have they just tweaked the signal meter...

as for the boring part just download the apps ,i tried the game called "cordy " this morning very cool need more games like that , finshed it in 15m needs more challegeing levels...

yeah i dont know what games to play. i sit on RoboDefence and try to get mega points so i can keep upgrading my towers to superhuman strength. i paid for titanium backup JUST SO i wouldnt lose my upgrades cus i worked so hard on them. lol. and then i play a game like "SliceIt" which is just you trying to cut shapes into smaller equal portions by drawing lines by multitouch. its like a cartoon, but tricky at the same time. love it. given up on angry birds. too commercial. i will try cordy. what else do ppl recommend. i dont like action games using the accelerometer and that bs. i prefer thinking games, and ideally id have final fantasy turn based RPG for my phone, but i dont know any good turn based RPGs. anyone?
