any reason why you are wanting stock firmware, other than for emergency warranty issues? im running darky's 9.3 + speedmod (ext2 lagfix) + the JL2 modem, everything is like butter, 2000+ quadrant scores, and 48+ hrs battery... its almost boring theres nothing else to tweak on it! :)

how did you manged to get 48+ hrs of battery? are you using a stock battery or different? or you hardly use your phone?

stock battery. GPS off. 3g and wifi off, and only enabled when needed. background data off, autosync off, only when needed do i enable background and sync. only when i need to check email, do i enable 3g, then go into email app, and hit refresh. only takes a min to clear old emails and bring in the new so no drama to me i dont need push updates every 15min my life isnt that exciting anymore. i use switchpro to toggle data and wifi so its a one-press affair. auto-rotate OFF mostly so its not sitting in my pocket polling the sensor. 3D gallery replaced with the hacked version without battery drain via SGS tools. using GTG 5icon launcher with rotation. and all darkish backgrounds to save OLED power. and screen locked at 20% brightness, i toggle to 50% or 80% in sunlight as needed, again using switchpro, the one click wonder.

i dont believe im crippling my experience because it does everything i need it to, and battery is no longer a concern to me, which is much better peace of mind than ensuring my emails are up to date or whatever

probably do about an hour's wifi browsing in the morning, and about 3hours at night, browsing websites on opera mobile, random syncing, updating apps, browsing market occasionally, and playing games at night. a full round of robodefence gets the phone pretty hot (takes about 15-20min per round??) and eats about 8% battery, so i try not to play that unless plugged in. about 15-20mins voice calls in the day, and a bunch of txts. maybe couple of photos here and there.

usually end up with about 4-5hrs wifi use, 4hrs+ display on, and x mins of voice calls and other use, at the end of 40ish hours of use, before its down to below 10% battery, ive posted screenshots of this before on here i think. im not a heavy user - if i was cranking audiobooks or listening to music all the time im sure this would be lower, and if im on GPS in the car with screen always on, and 3g and GPS enabled with google navigation, it can eat about 15% per hour or so? but thats only on long trips.

pretty average really, ive pushed it before and got about 64hours from it really being a scrooge, but normal usage for me is usualy always above 40+ hours

If you want RPGs you will probably need to play them in an emulator, I have FF6 through a SNES Emu and Pokemon on a GBA Emu.

I must update my signature. I've flashed the latest Doc rom last night (more nervous than usual since the phone is more important than ever to me).

I leave the phone charging overnight these days for fear or not having enough battery life for a day. So battery life is essential with a new rom.

I took it off charge at 6am and had mobile data going all day. I was down to 41% when I got home at 6pm tonight.

I don't think that's great, but then I don't usually have mobile data on for 12 hours so it's perhaps a fair amount of battery drain.

I checked twitter and FB regularly, Gmail isn't working despite clearing the cache twice (might uninstall and reinstall), took a couple of calls, had a few text messages that's all.

cheers for that lofreq! dont think i could reach that... especially at work wifi kills my battery but at home its fine with wifi on.

Doesn't seem to be, no. I did get an error about the servioce being unavailable at the moment and try again later though, until I turned on mobile data as well.

This is a real pain in the arse. some people are having no trouble it seems, while others just cant get it working.

I am still waiting to hear from people with sgs's who have MMS working, what there config is, and what network.

MMS problems Update:

Summary: some people here (myself included) were having trouble sending or receiving MMS messages with their SGS smartphone. After a process of elimination and trial and error, I have successfully sent and received numerous MMS messages.

1. It seems that the correct modem on your phone plays a role. I have used the JPE, DXJPB, and BUJP5 modems but others may also work. JPY seems to be problematic for me.
I used the ROMkitchen (XDA) to make an update zip consisting of ONLY the modem I want; hopefully this can be used on any rom in future (excepting known problems), not just Doc's. I am using BUJP5 modem.

2. Ensure the correct APN settings are set in your phone. I have noted that some providers dont provide their settings over the air in the correct format for Android; 2degrees does not. The settings obtained from 2degrees vis the STK (SimToolKit) in some ROMs contain subtle faults: a lacking of zeros here, a slash that shouldnt be there, etc. Use the settings listed in the android forum. Type them in exactly. You should also DELETE all the hidden APN's that came with your ROM. (APN backup and restor will do this for you, and also backup your new, good, APN settings). I have noticed android sometimes likes the WRONG settings more than your new ones - IF it has any there to confuse itself with.

3. Doing 1 and 2 allows you to turn off packet data (cell network internet) while still being able to use MMS. E.g. you do NOT need to have 3G internet turned on to use MMS as some have reported. I personally use widgetoid (off the market) to switch it off/on (and have set it to only turn off the internet APN, not ALL APN's).

4. I have tried this on several ROMs now - Doc's 9.6.6 JS5, 9.8 JS7, ultimate 7.8 (which also seems to get rid of the annoying charging complete beep). kernels - speedmod, ultimate kernel 1.0 & 1.1, the latter with fugutweaks, camera autofocus/powerbutton mod, undervolted, and running ext2 (JFS seems broken on this build). Also the auto-record phone APK. I have used both the stock samsung messaginh app, and also handcent.

5. I also did a Odin flash to JM8 before starting just to wipe out any crap that MIGHT have been lurking...

(As an aside I also seem to be getting 3g/HSDPA speeds on 2degrees even over vodafone roaming).

I also noticed that some cell phones seem to have trouble with MMS's sent from my SGS; other cell phones are happy. I also had one that did NOT get the correct APN settings from 2degrees on the phone (nokia 2730).

I am currently running a JS7 rom built with the ROM kitchen; pretty minimal build. I manually flashed the latest DamianGTO kernel (shaping up to be a real winner), and the fugutweaks mods and the camera mod zip file. All from XDA. And surprisingly it all just works, including MMS.

And its FAST (JS7 + fugutweaks + ext2) and efficient (I undervolted it by 50mv in recovery - ultimate kernel has overclocking/undervolting built into the recovery mode. Not overclocked as yet, just undervolted). very smooth, Still testing though.

I tried to use mpass at the airport with my Galaxy the other day.

The oled screen doesnt seem to work with airnz scanners at the gate.

Anyone else have this?

I'm using Pele's BAT (Black Android Theme) 4.1.1 I think it is. Very minimalistic and simple. I was against the idea of only a black them but realised all my wall papers, dock etc where black and white. Felt like a hypocrite. So here I am, running his theme.

Just updated to JS7 and decided to try R64's theme after being dissatisfied with Generation X (green).
I'm not sure I'm happy with it but there isn't much out there that tickles me either.
I'm not a fan of having persistant blue anywhere, especially for wallpapers or the notification bar at the top since blue ages significantly faster on OLED screens.
