jbmoocs: How good is the IR blaster on S4. I've given up trying to use the S3 as a reliable RC via Wireless it's not very reliable. Does it just work out of the box or is it fiddly?

I'll give it a whizz tonight.

Thanks Damager. Looking forward toyour review.

I've been using it on mine since I got it - brilliant with my LG TV! I'd be careful not to update the WatchOn app though, when I did that it broke the app for me and I had to rollback to the older version. I'm using it at a distance of about 5-6m from my TV without any issues whatsoever, so seems very reasonable to me (the HTC One remote range seems the same).

Thanks NZtech. Good to know it has been reliable for you might have to sell the S3 soon then. How about bluetooth connectivity in the car does it pick up contacts/music without issues?

Don't use BT in my car so no idea sorry!

Enjoyed the remote a lot last night - PS3 controller and TV remote MIA as we went to catch some Netflix, I said to my Fiance "I'll find the TV remote, you get the PS3 remote?". She agreed, forgetting I could use the phone (actually either phone, the HTC One IR blaster works well too), she was gutted when she got up from looking under the couch to see me grinning and turning on the TV with my phone :)

Totally worthwhile expenditure of relationship currency.

I'm sure it would be fine works like a charm with S3, seriously you should invest in BT in the car its brilliant use of the phone and chicks dig it very much for its practical use in the same way as your last quote ;)

I brought mine from Telecom in Riccarton Mall yesterday afternoon and the guy said they had had very little interest in them so both colours were in stock

Cheers for that just went and picked one up from them they had quite a few sitting there.

About to pair mine. The s3 worked fine. I'll edit this in about 5 minutes.

EDIT
Works fine.
Gave the mrs a call and it was clear both ways.

At this stage, the only annoying thing is not being able to change the dock apps.

For those that are really concerned about the plastic rear cover I saw this on XDA

aliexpress are ok to deal with.

Is that a good design feature  that you can have a phone you can change the cover on?

Hey guys

Does your camera have a film of plastic around it? Is it supposed to be peeled off?

Mine did, and yes it peeled off (after removing the back)  The plastic had a hole in the middle so didn't cover the lens though....  looked like a donut when I took it off.

Excellent, thanks for that. Thought I'd ask before trying to peel off something non-existant!

I have just converted over from an iphone 4s to the S4 and so far I am more than pleased. My older age is happy with the clarity and screen size and I am just working through how all this android stuff works lol.
I found that the iphone was just becoming to vanilla and that I wanted something with a bit of bling I guess you could call it.
I looked at getting the HTC one but decided to go with the S4. All the apps I had on the iphone I have been able to find for the S4 so I am not losing out on anything there.
So far so good for me.

You mean the apps on the bottom of the homescreen? If so, you can change those. Long press and remove ones you want to change then add new one as per usual.

Perhaps he means the actual "apps" icon in the dock. I can't move mine from its default position on the right hand side, I would like to move it to the middle of the dock.
