lokhor: Wow I stopped using JuiceDefender today and after less than 9hrs i'm at 10% :/ I'm pretty sure my SGS has worse battery life than anyone else.

That's 9hrs not full-on web browsing etc right? A lot of that would be in sleep?
All comments are my own opinion, and not that of my employer unless explicitly stated.

Yes. I did around 2hrs of screen usage and ~30 mins of music playing. according to battery history it was Running 39% of that time so not sleeping. 3G was on that entire time with autosync on and running Viber which appears to keep a constant connection. The reception at my work is pretty bad and ranges from 2 bars HSDPA at best to 0-1 bars of Edge reception in some parts of the building. Currently using BUJP5 modem and on 2Degrees.
lofreq:
i too found JVB stock kernel as having big drain even on idle, big shock from the stability of JS8. swapped to DamianGTO's beta7, and drain idle dropped to like 1% per 6hours. huge difference. beta7 is rumoured to be more battery friendly than his GOLDv2.0. id recommend swapping kernels, then draining the phone flat, recharging to full while off, boot into recovery immediately, pull charger and reset battery stats, and you should be sorted
i dont get as much as froyo, but still 40+hours on medium use, i still set WIFI to sleep 'on screen off', i dont push email or autosync constantly, and disable background data, to get 40+hours. background data really sucks the battery also on GB for me. with sync, background on, etc, i get about 24-30hrs
KC1 works as well as JL2 but GPS looks like it works a bit faster. battery seems similar, doesnt "hunt" as much as other modems. not sure yet but JL2 is admittedly hard to beat despite its age!

So how good is Damians kernel/s compared to cf-root(stability/ speed) which is fairly basic. I'm finding that it's stable but still get the "Android OS " process drain issue occasionally, when I don't have this issue I can get 40hrs easily(ext4).
lofreq:
cf-root has no real mods, just has stuff added to it like ext4 support and cwm. damians kernel has some additional tweaks - it definitely stops/slows idle drain on the battery quite alot. i use batterysnap graphs to check the progress/discharge of my battery whenever i make changes, you can see a steady drop of battery on stock JVB or CFroot, regardless if you turn off 3g and background data etc. but do the same on damians kernel and all drain seems to slow down. whatever its doing, it works.
it could be better tho, it was better on 2.2.1 speedmod kernel and darkys 9.5, that combo was outstanding. but i believe gb will get there - thats why im hanging on for hardcore to finish his gb speedmod kernel :D

I was going to go and download it but it appears the file "doesn't exist", beta 5 and 6 work just not the rest( http://forum.damiangto.org/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=27 )

Yeah, that'd be great. Which do you recommend?
fahrenheit: Considering JVH just released, I'm bemused as to why anyone is in any hurry to flash a recalled release such as JVB.

because JVH is still stock and the JVB roms we are talking about have had some good enhancements to them already
once JVH gets modified then its the logical next step - i personally dont like flashing pure stock roms on, i just hate the unthemed/ununified look of everything

Oh I'd never suggest flashing the stock rom. I'm absolutely a custom rom fan through and through and couldn't comprehend running on stock. But realistically we won't have long to wait for jvh-based goodness.
I just don't see how suggesting someone going from stock 2.1 to a very flawed 2.3 is all that helpful.

there was talk of gold2.0 having some changes that werent as good as beta 7. im back on beta 7 now to test and it seems good - id say start with this
once installed u can also add the EXT4 app from CFroot's thread, and convert your stuff to ext4 if you havent already

let me know how u go -
in fact heres gold 2.0 as well, grab both so u can try both and see for yourself
they are ODIN tar packages only, not CWM
