lokhor: So is leaving 3g and autosync on considered heavy usage? I'd still expect ~15 hours standby with it on.. with JuiceDefender my battery lasts closer to 15hrs and up to 20hrs where it only enables 3g when the screen is on or for 1 min every 15 mins.

lokhor: Autosync uses push so it isn't supposed to drain the battery so rapidly. it doesn't check every 5 minutes or anything. If you use JuiceDefender to schedule data on/off it still only checks in that one minute if any new messages are pushed to your device. I'm pretty sure these devices are made so that you can leave the 3g connected and only have messages pushed - much like the way you receive sms messages or calls. I don't see any point of having a smartphone if it doesn't do this. If i'm using a VoIP solution like Viber it requires a constant data connection so that new messages can be pushed and calls can be received.
I don't need to have everything every 5 seconds which is why my twitter and facebook are only updated hourly. I disable wifi and gps while at work.

Still pretty new to all this but am I to assume that when I am at home and connected to the home Wifi that 3g is turned off automatically? It seems from on here that the 3g aspect is something that consumes more battery than Wifi?
thanks
ps totally unrelated why am I able to 'pinch zoom' some web pages and not others in my browser? eg Geekzone 'yes' NZ Herald 'no'

groynk: Hi
This may not be possible, but I would love to know if there is a way to upgrade to GB bootloaders without connecting to a computer through USB.
All the guides I've read so far say to use ODIN to upgrade the bootloaders.
I am currently enjoying flashing custom ROMs based on 2.2.1, but want to move on to 2.3.3 and 2.3.4.
My issue though is that I have lost the ability to connect through USB, and have gotten used to just using CWM and downloading straight through the phone!

No, there isn't a way I know of and if there was it would be risky. So you have USB Debug on, go into download mode and Odin doesn't recognise your phone?
