If you've rooted it, it would also show this message (ie. stock FW but rooted).

No, sorry for not being clear, I haven't rooted it etc. All I've done is apply OTA or kies updates as per the rules. I wonder if there is just a bug affecting the telecom rom at the mo

I flashed Singapore firmware on top of my Vodafone XMA2 and boys it is much faster, battery usage is also much better than Vodafone NZ firmware.

Here is the background:
I keep having problem with 3G connectivity on my S3 since MA2 and I did factory reset my phone two days ago. I got a new sim card from Vodafone because I thought the old sim card is playing up but it did not fixed the problem I am having. Factory reset the phone and still having problem but worst than ever before. My calls keep dropping out and occationally getting message not sent or Network Unavailable error. Battery life? Well not very good and the 3G/HPSA+ does not work on it as it should. I cannot browse the internet for 2 months since upgrade to MA2. I rang up Vodafone 777 and to find out that they cannot hear me most of the time and after many D/C they called me back but I got D/C again.

So last night I downloaded the latest firmware for Singapore (unbranded EMC2) and flash on to my phone. Things still the same here but not until I did a factory reset on the Singapore firmware and today I am testing it on 3G/HPSA+ all day and battery is amazingly good.

Disconnected since 7:46am and now I still have 70% left from downloading/browsing and syncronising all day. I am able to get 3G/HPSA+ connection on this firmware and the speed test said 7000kbits/s download but upload is not so good though. But I am happy at the moment.

Normally, even with WIFI connection (turned off 3G DATA/GPS and minimal sync) I would only have 61%-50% left of juice and that is basically sitting on idle most of the time. But with EMC2 firmware I still have 70% juice with 3G/HSPA+.

This could be a placebo effect but at least I am happy now :)
Everything is loading much faster (Phone, Contacts ...etc) also better quadrant score too.

Give it a try guys :P

I just bought an S3 (2degrees from Warehouse Stationery) and have a couple of questions:
  1. Touch2pay - I need to get a new micro sim card anyway, so can I get a touch2pay one? The Auckland stores don't sell them and the online store doesn't have blank ones (it looks like, plus based on a thread here which makes it sound like getting a non-blank one is a bad idea). Will my phone have full touch2pay functionality if I can get a touch2pay sim, given I didn't buy it from Wellington as the website says. I don't really expect a Wellington S3 to be different to an Auckland S3. Is there a difference? What's my best course of action here, if the blank touch2pay sims are easily available from Wellington stores, I can get one there.
  2. Sudden death etc - what do I need to do to sort this out? I'm still waiting for my sim (as above) but should I upgrade my firmware. Will the latest update offered to me fix this problem or will I need to go looking for something different?

Updating the firmware to 4.1.2 should be able to keep your phone from suffering the sudden death

I got these ones here which work great:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=120934052564&ssPageName=ADME:L:OC:AU:3160#ht_1475wt_906

That seller is no longer selling them though. These will do the trick:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/10pcs-NFC-Smart-Tags-Sticker-A-dhesive-Label-13-56MHz-ISO14443A-Mifare1k-S50-MF1-/121070217488?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item1c3058e910

A combination of NFC Task launcher and Tasker is awesome.

Cheers, Matt.

My views (except when I am looking out their windows) are not those of my employer.

sqlpro: any suggestions for NFC tags for S3 ?

I bought a dozen or so in various formats from nfcwireless.com.au, they've been fine. They seem to have heaps more varieties now too.

I am interested to know what you mean by this and what you are using them for exactly?
